Destination of the Week: Barcelona

The second largest city in Spain, Barcelona is a cultural hub. With amazing architecture and art, delicious food, and the smell of the ocean, Barcelona is has something to keep everyone busy or amused.

Capital of Catalonia, a region in Northern Spain, you will come across a unique city with its own culture and traditions. Barcelona is the perfect place for travellers returning to Spain. With the city's residents speaking mostly Catalan, it's a guaranteed new and exciting experience.

A city filled with modern art and famous architecture, you'll surely be able to satisfy your need for art history. You'll find museums dedicated to some of Picasso and Miró's most important works. Influenced by forms of nature and using mosaic patterns, Antoni Gaudí's architecture is some of most unique and admired around the world. You will find Barcelona dotted with Gaudí's architecture. The Sagrada Familia is Barcelona's most visited attraction and one of Gaudí's greatest works.

If you've always wanted to see Barcelona from a bird's eye view, Park Guell is for you. Taking a brisk walk up through the park and you will find the Closed Chapel. Once you've climbed to the top you will see a view of Barcelona that is unforgettable. The park was also designed by Gaudí and features some of his famous mosaic work.

The Spanish poet Federico García Lorca once said "the only street in the world which I wish would never end." He was refereeing to La Rambla, one of the most popular streets in central Barcelona with both tourists and locals. You'll find dozens upon dozens of locals selling hand made items and markets that will satisfy your taste buds. Be sure to try the fresh fruit! And tapas, tapas, and more tapas. Known as the "Capital of Mediterranean diet", you will find unique dishes loaded with seafood. Famous for having their meat and fish on the same plate you will not leave hungry. Indulge yourself in either Fideuas, seafood paella but served with noodles or Butifarra which is a spiced sausage. Tapas bars and the homemade Sangria are not to miss!
