Destination of the Week: Budapest

'...cited as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe...'

Budapest, the capital of the central European country, Hungary is the country's principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial, and transportation centre.

It has been consistently cited as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe with an extensive World Heritage Site including the banks of the Danube, the Castle Quarter, Andrássy Avenue, Heroes' Square and the Millennium Underground Railway, the second oldest in the world. Other highlights include a total of 80 geothermal springs built by the Romans, the world's largest thermal water cave system, second largest synagogue, and third largest Parliament building.

And with all this to offer, the world seems to have taken stock with Budapest ranking as 'the world's second best city' by Condé Nast Traveller and 'Europe's 7th most idyllic place to live' by Forbes. Similarly Euromonitor reports that the city attracts about 4.3 million tourists a year making it the 25th most popular city in the world and the 6th most popular in Europe.

On the Love Home Swap site, homes in Budapest account for 82% of the homes listed in Hungary. So with Budapest exuding beauty as well as keeping it 'cheap and cheerful', will it find its way onto your bucket list this year?
