So we have thrown paint in India, gazed at the flashing lights in Iceland and had a food fight with tomatoes in Spain, so what is next? This week on the bucket list, we are bringing to you the largest beer festival in the world, the notorious, Oktoberfest.

The 16 day festival is a celebration of beer and is held annually in Munich, running from late September to early October; the spectacle attracts more than 6 million people from around the world, every year. Oktoberfest is a 16 day festival celebrating beer held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, running from late September to the first weekend in October.

The size of the festival is staggering; with 14 big tents house anything between 4,000 and 11,000 thirsty festival goers. Starting early is key to maximising your festival experience, with so many people descending on the city of Munich the beer tents fill up from 11am! Twelve hour drinking and beer being served by the litre (at about 9 euros each) is the recipe for disaster so pace yourself and take the opportunity to sample some of the traditional German cuisine that is in abundance at the festival!

Oktoberfest is not just about guzzling Bavarian beer but also about sampling the local delicacy or traditional foods. Schutzen-Festzelt is one of the best tents for food. Boasting 4,442 seats and the 'Neideralmer' music group come for entertainment. A delicious combination of suckling pig prepared in an authentic Barvarian manner, served with malt beer sauce and potato salad is a must to soak up the booze and sober you up.

Oktoberfest is all about the atmosphere, so it you are looking for a place to drink beer, dress up, eat amazing food and make some great friends then this is the place for you. Maybe even try a German home exchange.
