About our home

Originally built in 1915 and remodeled in 2009, La Maison du Comte is centered around a beautiful covered courtyard, complete with creeping ivy, wrought iron chairs, and sunbleached terracotta tiles. Done in a neoclassical style, the house also doubles as an art gallery, featuring works from local Argentine artists. But in our opinion, the best part is often the cake and hot coffee the owner and architect Irma leaves for new arrivals.

Stepping into the foyer through the massive oak and wrought-iron doors you are warmly welcomed by the filtered sunshine from the courtyard, then directed into a surprisingly cozy living room where the eye is immediately drawn to the splashy artwork, namely a painting of some unknown muse’s blood red lips. Trés français indeed. Meander on through each of the three courtyard suites, exquisitely decorated with antique painted armoires in bright colors, white-framed floor length mirrors and gauzey drapes. Oh, and the flooring is the original heart pine from the early 20th century—just a century’s worth of stories and secrets hidden in the knots and whorls, waiting to be re-imagined. The back of the house is home to the kitchen, a converted servant’s quarters, and the formal dining room for when you’re feeling proper.

Tucked away down a discreet staircase off the courtyard you’ll find the underground den, equipped with movie projector and plush seating and all set to be converted into a fifth bedroom as needed - who knows what the space was used for a century ago but it certainly encourages the imagination. Throughout the house whimsical touches abound, such as a collection of azure glass jugs, sassy “kiss” pillows, Buddhist curios and swathes of original stone tiling in unexpected places.
