About our home

Burnett House (Lilly's cottage) is a wonderful surprise - from the moment you step inside you are enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Built by the current owner's grandparents, it has stayed in the one family for three generations. Originally a farmhouse with extensive grounds, today this beautifully preserved property is available to guests and has been modernised while retaining its character.

On entry from Burnett Street is a formal living room with a flat screen TV, comfortable couches and cushions galore. This room can easily accommodate four adults for evening drinks, and has a vibrant colour scheme and specialised glassware for guests to enjoy. The first bedroom is opposite, housing a double bed and window seat, with hanging space provided.

Down the hall is the Marilyn room - a gorgeous confection of white and pink with the screen goddess prominently displayed on one wall. This room has a queen sized bed, floorboards and plenty of storage, attracting morning light through the large window. Further down, the hallway opens onto the Day room, a perfect blend of old and new. White leather couches are paired with the original fireplace and wooden floors, creating a relaxed yet cosy feel. A second flat screen TV is provided here as well as a Sony Soundbar that you can play your music through via bluetooth and a DVD player for the rainy days.

Leading from the Day room is a sun room with a second toilet and powder room at one end, and laundry at the other. Quirky pictures and a cupboard full of extra crockery and serving dishes resides here, as well as useful items such as a complimentary umbrella. The kitchen is compact making it easy to care for on your holiday, however has everything you could possibly need to create a meal while entertaining family and friends. There is a coffee machine with some complimentary pods, microwave, full arsenal of utensils and the room leads outside to the private outdoor courtyard for ease while having a barbecue.

Upstairs there is another beautifully decorated bedroom, with a queen bed. There is also a landing at the top of the stairs with some original pieces belonging to the owners family - they invite guests to take a look. The Reading room overlooks Burnett St, and you can see all the way to the water from these high windows. There are some family photos in this room that those with a sense of history will enjoy. The owner advises the staircase is unsuitable for children, so all guests must be 13 and older except for infants that are not yet mobile.

Perfectly located in the popular North Hobart Restaurant Strip, Burnett House will not fail to delight. The cooking facilities are excellent but why would you cook when you have such a plethora of culinary delights at your doorstep? The owner recommends many local restaurants and you can find out her favourites when you stay! A short walk to the city for shopping, and on the main bus route to travel easily to MONA or to Salamanca Markets. There is a park with BBQ facilities across the road, and don't forget to check out the treats at the nearby Italian Pantry. With quality linen and furniture, gas-hydronic heating throughout, high ceilings and a rich history - a stay at Burnett House is not easy to forget.
