About our home
Gordon House, a National Trust heritage-listed property is in the Paris-end of Melbourne and at the top-end of bustling Chinatown. My apartment is in the heart of Melbourne's most famous shopping, theatre and restaurant precinct.
Built in 1884, Gordon House, is a National Trust heritage-listed property, comprising an eclectic mixture of Gothic, Romanesque and Renaissance styles. In the Paris-end of Melbourne and at the top-end of bustling Chinatown, this architecturally significant building is in the heart of Melbourne's most famous shopping, theatre and restaurant precinct.
My cozy (read small) two bedroom apartment is a little bit unusual. For starters it's on the top floor (4th floor). It has high ceilings and original exposed beams. It has two bedrooms, with a double bed in each. It has another double bed in a loft/mezzanine, and a quirky net, all hanging over the lounge room.
There's a kitchen and laundry, lounge, TV and wi-fi, and downstairs is a swimming pool and BBQ and a choice of two of Melbourne's most well-known cafes for breakfast.
Step outside, and it's a short (500m) walk to local attractions like Parliament House, the Bourke Street Mall, Melbourne Central, the famous MCG, Rod Laver Arena and the Royal Exhibition Buildings. Plus theatres, restaurants and Melbourne's high-end shopping precinct. Victoria Market, the Casino and Old Melbourne Jail (Gaol); if you feel like a longer (10 minute) walk, or a free tram ride.
You will be in the heart of Melbourne city, a stone's throw to a tram stop that is within the free tram zone of Melbourne and Parliament train station.
Even though there are two bedrooms, one of those bedrooms (the smaller one) is quite regularly (until you organise otherwise) rented out to AirBNB. This means any swap will require the possible hosting of an Airbnb guest.
There is still a third double bed in a loft, and if you need more than 4 beds, at least one other lucky person can sleep in the net overhanging the lounge room.
I am seeking to swap with someone on a regular basis, say once a month (flexible), who lives about an hour or so out of Melbourne in a rural area, where I can hopefully keep a horse nearby and go for the occasional ride.
Because I live and work from the same apartment, I get a bit of cabin fever sometimes and just want to escape to the country occasionally. I'm very flexible but I don't have a car which means you either have to live near a train station, swap your car as well (possibly) or I could hire a car (my normal solution when I need one.)
(House trained, not-so-hairy, friendly pets welcome.)
