About our home

*available during last half of 2016 for 2 weeks up to 2 months flexible on dates and months

The Commons is a multi-award architecturally designed building comprising of 24 apartments built in 2013. Based 6kms from the CBD in the multicultural suburb of Brunswick this is a truly fantastic way to experience life in Melbourne. The building has a 7 star energy rating with solar panels and thermal heating. This means it stays warm in winter and cool in summer. The rooftop garden and BBQ area provides a communal meeting space to meet the neighbours or entertain guests, you can also grow your own veggies or collect honey from the bee hives.

Downstairs on the ground level is a yoga studio, you can find out more at http://www.commongrounds.co/
and a cafe https://www.zomato.com/melbourne/steam-junkies-brunswick

The aesthetic of the apartments is rustic industrial, enhanced with details such as plywood joinery, raw copper tap fittings, copper kitchen sinks and recycled floorboards in the apartments. Add to this the exposed concrete ceiling and hydronic heating, and you have a warm and inviting living space.

You are a 2 minute walk to train station, a share car is parked out the front, you can ride along the safe bike paths or catch an iconic tram from Sydney Rd just 5 minutes walk. There are plenty of bars, restuarants and parks close by. The city is a 15 minute train ride or 20 minute bike ride. If you are not from Australia then you may not be aware that the inner suburbs of Melbourne (including this suburb of Brunswick) are in fact more sought after than the inner city due to bars, live music, food and cafe culture.

More about us

  1. Thom works in fine food and dining and Lisa works as an artist and in early childhood education
  2. Our home feels a bit like a log cabin in the sky. It is filled with art work and books about art, food and wine.
  3. Lisa grew up in Australia and South America and Thom grew up in Indonesia and Sydney. We would like to swap our house for approx 1-2 months during mid to late 2016! We are open to many different places but I would really like to revisit Spain, Indonesia and parts of Latin America.
