About our home

Built in 1927, this typical East Vancouver house with garden sits on a quiet residential street in the Hastings-Sunrise (a.k.a. The East Village) neighbourhood. Yet it's only 3 blocks to the local main road with cafés, drugstores, shops, restaurants, banks, a supermarket, parks and main transit lines. Very reasonable Sushi, Thai, Vietnamese, Palestinian, Indian, Mexican & Italian food are all within a few minutes walk. Our home has views of the mountains and is colourful and relaxed, retaining many vintage features and decorated with original artwork. There are two bedrooms on the upper floor: our bedroom, with a queen-sized bed, and our son's - with a raised single loft bed and room underneath to put a fold-out mattress for another child or adult if needed. Downstairs is a large joined living-room/dining room, kitchen, bathroom, front hall and home office/guest bedroom with a very comfortable sofa that easily converts into another queen-sized bed. It's a 10-minute very direct car drive or a 20-minute easy bus ride into downtown Vancouver. We are about a 15-minute walk to Commercial Drive, the hip main shopping & restaurant street of East Vancouver. This part of Vancouver is becoming known as the Brewery District or "Yeast Van" due to the recent proliferation of craft breweries, most with tasting rooms for sampling their offerings, serving snacks and occasionally having gourmet food trucks serving outside. We are also only a few minutes from the Trans-Canada highway, (connecting you to North & West Vancouver, Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal & the highway to Squamish & Whistler further North) so it's very accessible by car and there's plenty of free street parking beside the house. Vancouver is famous for it's fresh air, bordered by beaches on one side and mountains on the other. We usually have beautiful summer and autumn weather, with wet but mild and green winters.

More about us

  1. We are a couple with a 6yr-old son; Gavin comes from Scotland & Annabelle is Canadian but born in France.
  2. We are travelers who also work in Vancouver's film & television industry.
  3. Our home is comfortable and a little eclectic. We like to explore undiscovered places and try local food.
