About our home

Very private, immaculate villa. Walking distance to beaches and town (or 1-2 minute drive). Lively town of Sosua. Beachside town with lots of little bars and restaurants. Loads of ex-pats from Canada and England.
Villa has 2 bedrooms each with it's own bathroom. Livingroom has flatscreen t.v. with cable, DVD player with video library. Internet equipped with wifi. Free long distance calls to Canada and U.S.. Two covered terraces outside. One with diningroom furniture and BBQ, the other with outdoor livingroom furniture. Lovely landscaped grounds, extremely private backyard with outdoor pool and 6-8 person hot tub. Tropical flowers and fruit trees.
Gated community with security 24/7. Well equipped kitchen, poolside loungers with mattresses, in-pool loungers.
Property manager available 8am-8pm (24 hours for emergencies).

Neighbourhood is great because it is very safe. There is a road, but it is more of a big driveway where only residents drive on it to reach their home. Speed limit is 5 km/hr. My community is just 10 villas with another pool with BBQ for the community. (I also have a private pool) It is located just at the boundary of Sosua so it is close to the action, but far enough from the centre to be peaceful and relaxing. There are lots of bars and restaurants in Sosua that are owned by Canadians and Brits, or you can 'go dominican' at one of the local discos. There are several beaches nearby. Sosua beach is lively with lots of little craft stores and bars, lots of water sports, loungers and umbrellas for rent. There are other beaches that are quiet with no stores or watersports, but you can still rent a lounger and umbrella. Other beaches are natural with no amenities. And they are all within a 2 - 15 minute drive.
There are alot of good restaurants in Sosua as well. Cabarete is a small town that is only a 10 minute drive. It is famous for kiteboarding at Kite Beach. Very lively with more upscale restaurants right on the beach.
Dominican Republic is a large island with lots of different places to explore. Santo Domingo is about a 3-4 hours drive and is a UNESCO heritage centre and a fascinating city. The first city built by Columbus. On the eastern side of the island, whales come to Samana Bay to breed every year from mid-January to mid-March. The mountains are also fascinating to drive through.

I own a restaurant and pub in Canada's Arctic - Iqaluit, on Baffin Island, where I relocated from Toronto in my twenties. My studies on caribou first brought me to the Arctic, but I fell in love with it and never went home. One of my biggest interests is travel, however I much prefer to experience places, rather than just visit them - which is why living in someone's home is much more interesting to me than staying in an impersonal hotel.
I do speak French and Spanish, but I am not fluent. I can communicate in both languages though.
