About our home

AVAILABLE OVER XMAS & NEW YEAR FOR POINTS
Ours is a beautifully restored brick and columbage, Perigourdine farmhouse, typical of the Forest de la Double, with all modern comforts yet retaining lots of character. Whilst in a peaceful and beautiful country location, it is only an hour from Bordeaux, a World Heritage City, an hour from the historic city of Perigueux, 45 minutes to Bergerac, and 35 minutes from St Emilion, an historic hillside town in the heart of the Bordeaux wine lands.

Approached along a 200 metre driveway lined with fruit trees, the house is set in 32 acres of grassland and woodland with 2 ponds plus a lake of approximately an acre stocked with a variety of fish (which you are welcome to catch if you can!). The property was originally a fruit producing farm and the woods surrounding it comprise the old orchards with other trees such as oaks and chestnuts. There are often deer in the grounds close to the house.

There are two large covered terraces with wooden furniture for outdoor eating and relaxing as well as a 10 x 5 metre swimming pool (alarmed according to French regulations) with a large sun terrace. The lake and ponds are not fenced.

There is a total of approximately 350 m2 of accommodation inside the house. The two sitting rooms and the dining room face south with French windows to garden or verandah. There is a large, fully equipped family kitchen, and a separate laundry room. The 4 good sized double bedrooms and 3 bathrooms are all upstairs with a cloakroom downstairs. The main en suite has a shower and a bath, the second bathroom has a shower and the third a shower bath. My atelier is downstairs where I keep a kiln for fusing glass . It used to be a 2nd kitchen and is still useful for the serving drinks to the bottom verandah. There is also a study upstairs which is not normally available during house swaps.

The house has full oil central heating plus 3 wood burning stove. If you are considering living in France check it out in mid winter. Swaps needn't be simultaneous.
We would expect guests not to smoke at all in the house and not to bring pets.
