About our home

18th century 9 bedroomed farm, full of character, that can be split into three independent homes (all will be vacant) available for exchange from autumn 2007, minimum period 6 weeks. Very large property, with 5 kitchens, several sitting rooms, can easily sleep 15+ people.

Although secluded, for house exchange purposes use of a car can be arranged.

L'Eau Salée is unique, a local landmark, dating back to the 17th century. Secluded, yet close to all amenities, located in the rolling countryside on the eastern edge of the Rhône Valley at the foot of the Mont Ventoux. Surrounded by fields of apricot and cherry, lavender and sunflowers, this beautiful Provençal backwater is hidden away from the hubbub of the Riviera, yet within an easy drive of the coast.

The farm, or 'mas', is situated on the gentle terraced south-facing slopes of the valley and is completely sheltered from the occasional northerly 'Mistral' wind. On the land there is a spring, a well, orchards with lime blossom, truffle oaks, olive, fig, walnut, cherry, apricot, apple trees, and gardens filled with lavender, rosemary and thyme...

"L'Eau Salée" is located in the Vaucluse department of Provencal France, within five minutes of the Roman town of Vaison La Romaine, and five minutes from the mediaeval village of Malaucène. The nearest mainline railway stations are Avignon and Orange, both half an hour's drive away. Nearest airports with budget flights from the UK and elsewhere in Europe are Avignon, Marseille, Nimes and Montpellier.

Nestling in the foothills of the Mont Ventoux without another house in sight, in the Toulourenc valley just before its confluence with the River Ouveze, with a spectacular view of the jagged peaks of the Dentelles de Montmirail, L'Eau Salée feels completely secluded - yet remains within easy reach of all facilities and tourist attractions.

Single, a semi-retired shipping company director, I am a highly responsible and practical 50 year-old (having renovated the property detailed here). I would be the only person taking part in the house swap. Fit, a keen gardener!

One pet to look after in France, Chloë, a currently 10 week old (mid-June) female Mastiff pup, soft as butter ... but who will be considerably larger come the autumn!
