About our home
"Diontai Deairg" (the "Red Roofs") consists of two properties - a 200 year-old cottage with an adjacent newly-renovated barn - a great marriage of old and new and ideal for two families, a large extended family or just those who like a bit of space and variety! The cottage, originally called the “ceili” house (as it was where all the local villagers came to dance!), is cosy and compact and fully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The "barn", as the name suggests, was the original animal outhouse, but the cows have moved out to make way for an architect-designed make-over, retaining the old structure (now the kitchen) with a large open-plan living / dining area with a cathedral ceiling and feature floor-to-ceiling windows to make the most of the stunning views.
Combined, you have the best of both worlds – a home steeped in tradition yet with all modern conveniences. Briefly, the barn's sleeping accomodation includes a double bedroom, a second bedroom with a single bed and bunks with a trundle bed and a loft/playroom with a double sofa bed. The bathroom has a huge bath and a toilet, wash-hand basin and shower. Downstairs is a fully fitted kitchen with breakfast bar, a bright living/dining room with a Danish wood-burning stove and a shower room. The cottage accomodation includes a double bedroom and loft (with two double sofa beds), a compact kitchen, a shower room and cosy sitting room. Outdoors, apart from the views and lots of garden space, there are two large patio areas with seating for 10, a Weber barbeque and a newly installed pizza oven (best pizza of your life in 3 minutes flat!)
Facilities for the children are fantastic. As well as a mountain on their doorstep to explore, the newly built tree-house is Kids HQ in Ravensdale. There is also a 13-foot trampoline for bouncy fun, a dedicated play-room and, for the younger ones a swing, see-saw & slide set and a sandpit. A range of outdoor games including hoopla, boules, badminton/volley ball sets, etc, will also keep them busy.
Some of the other facilities and conveniences include:
- wireless internet access
- TV, DVD player, steros and an Ipod docking station in each house
- Gaggia and Nespresso coffee machines
- Dishwasher, washing machine and dryer (barn only)
- Hob, oven, microwave, fridge freezer in both houses
- Lots and lots of books and board games
We also have a cleaning lady who will be available during your stay and a gardener who keeps the place looking nice.
Diontai Deairg is our holiday home, so we are open to non-simultaneous exchange and the property is generally available all year round.
