About our home

Set high in the hills north of Mexico City, San Miguel de Allende dates to the 16th century, and has well preserved baroque architecture, winding cobblestone streets and is simply, wonderfully romantic. Selected by Conde Naste Traveller as one of the top ten places to visit in the world, San Miguel is the sort of place where people come for a month, and then stay forever.

We recently purchased our home here as a refuge from the Canadian winter. We fell in love with it on sight: the house is a richly designed sanctuary, finished with the highest quality materials and attention to detail. The home is elegant yet comfortable, furnished with antiques, Persian rugs and artwork from San Miguel and our travels around the world. The solar heated pool in the private courtyard is wonderful oasis after a day of strolling the charming cobblestone streets and taking in the many art galleries. Since so many creative people have been drawn to San Miguel, there are always workshops and classes in drawing, photography, and other creative arts on offer.

Our chef's kitchen is fully equipped, and we have a BBQ on the stunning roof top terrace, but if you wish not to cook, there are many good restaurants here, and a number of them offer special multi-course tasting menus with wine pairings, featuring guest chefs from the best places in Mexico.

We have 2 large bedrooms with modern en-suite baths (1 King and 1 Queen), plus a large office which serves as a third bedroom via a custom queen sized wall bed. All of our high quality Italian bed linens and Turkish cotton towels are new in 2012. For your convenience, there are powder rooms on the main floor and on the rooftop terrace. There are 5 fireplaces for romantic evenings beside the pool or on the roof. In total, this spacious house has 365 sq m or 3900 sq ft of living area, and is very comfortable for three couples.

We have wireless internet throughout, and the living room and office both have full surround sound systems, blue ray players and plasma TV's. But you will seldom want to be indoors! It is said that San Miguel has more festivals than school days: every weekend, the charming town square is filled with strolling families enjoying the outdoor concerts, fireworks bursting overhead and roaming mariachi bands. It is also a very popular wedding destination for affluent Mexicans, which adds to the celebratory atmosphere.

Our fully bilingual house manager is on call to welcome you and handle any issue or emergency. He also owns a tour company should you wish explore more of colonial Mexico. For your security and comfort, we have a high end security system and all of the water in the house is filtered and drinkable.

Our industrious housekeeper keeps the home sparkling 5 days a week, and also manages the pool and garden, so you need only enjoy.
