About our home

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful houses in Singapore... Our home is a gorgeous colonial 'Black and White' home built in 1900. It is full of colonial charm but with all the modern conveniences. It is set on extensive grounds with a heritage listed 80 year old Banyan tree, views of rolling green grass, tropical plants and an amazing array of colourful birds. Despite this it is only 10 minutes drive from Orchard Road and the centre of Singapore. It has a large private pool, trampoline and cubby house/jungle gym.

Downstairs is a large open plan space with formal and casual living as well as dining, beautifully furnished with Italian designer furniture. This leads on to a covered outdoor living area and a non-covered outdoor dining patio (with a four burner gas BBQ) over looking the pool and one section of the lawn. There are also two kitchens with all the mod cons including a coffee machine and a downstairs bathroom with shower and toilet. Upstairs there are four large bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms. The master bedroom has a super king bed, dressing room and bath, the second bedroom is set up as a nursery with baby cot, a cot bed and all baby facilities. The third bedroom is the children's room with two single beds and a pull out trundle bed and the fourth/guest bedroom has a queen size bed. All room have large sash windows and doors. There is also a large playroom/sitting room upstairs with piano, toys and sofa. This is a lovely room with huge windows overlooking the grounds.

There is a cottage attached to the back of the house by a small covered walkway which has a study and further bedroom area with a pull out sofa bed. Next door is a room set up with table tennis.

The house has high speed wireless internet throughout, a large apple mac computer, a wall mounted, surround sound home entertainment system and pay TV.

We have a lovely full time house keeper who lives in a cottage separate from the house but on the premises who will clean the house while we are away at no extra cost and who would be available for child minding at an extra cost. Taxis are cheap, plentiful and very easy so no need for a car.

Singapore is the land of endless summer, everyday of the year the temperature is between 29 and 33 degrees celcius. It is a beautiful city, lush and green with lots of well maintained public green spaces and forests. It is clean and efficient and easy to get around. Singapore has excellent shopping and has reinvented itself as the foodie capital of Asia, it has everything from the simplest, cheapest street snacks to some of the best restaurants in the world.

Singapore is also an excellent stepping off point to explore the rest of Asia with most of Asia's top destinations a short flight, boat ride or drive away.

Buzzy restaurants
Salt, Buko Nero, Xi Yan, Jim Thompson, Brunch at The Fullerton, High Tea at Raffles and anything at Dempsey Hill

Bit of culture
Founded by Malay, Tamil and Chinese communities, as well as having a large Indian and Expat contingent, Singapore has a diverse and interesting history, reflected in it's food architecture, the arts and wealth of museums.

3 things they loved about the swap:
  • Amazing house on a grand scale with loads of history.
  • Beutifully furnished in the black and white style.
  • High Tea at the Raffles to keep with the Colonial theme.

How much they saved: I can't imagine what it would cost to rent such a place for a holiday.

3 things about us

1
We are a family of five, mum (Melanie) and dad (Tristan) and three children, Amelie (5), Sach (3) and Poppy (1). We are originally from Australia but prior to Singapore lived six years in London and one year in Hong Kong. We all love to travel, experience different cultures, eat local and wonderful food (our kids love it too!!) and meet new people.
2
Our children are lots of fun but they are used to living with nice things and understand how to look after them, we would look after your home as we do ours.
3
We would like to be home in Australia every year for christmas and January and are looking for a house in Sydney and in Noosa or Byron Bay for one or two weeks each. We would also like to return to London and anywhere interesting in Europe in June/July each year. But we are absolutely interested in any great home/destination in the world for a house swap so get in touch!
