About our home
A 4-bedroomed house with stunning views over the surrounding woodland in an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' and 'Area of Special Scientific Interest'. The Cotswolds are an escarpment in the South West of England with rolling hills and beautiful English countryside
The style of the house is traditional/ rustic/ contemporary Cotswold. The bedrooms are individually designed and most have views of the surrounding country side or woodlands. There is a BBQ area outside. We are surrounded by a few traditional stone Cotswold homes and the location is very peaceful and quiet. We have uninterrupted views to the surrounding woodlands and one can easily access walks. We have a few local pubs serving ales and choice exists between generous portions of reasonably priced food or refined dining. Several other choices of pubs are available in the locality or one could travel to Cheltenham for an upmarket town experience.
The Cotswolds are unique in that traditional buildings are built from the local quarried stone. The Cotswold villages are a feast for the eyes. Our home is located near the West edge of the Cotswold escarpment which rises from Oxford in the east. There are many events and festivals going on. It is a special place to live.
Our house is designed by ourselves and built by ourselves as Architects. We have incorporated many energy efficient features including a woodburner and solar thermal that heats our water. Our house has a central ventilation system which adds to comfort. There is a local playing field for the kids and we occasionally have village events like the Country Fair and Cranham Deerfest in August. Nearby Painswick is a quintessential Cotswold village and is worth a visit. Cheltenham will offer you an unpmarket experience, while the cathedral and docks in Gloucester should be seen. Stroud town is only 7 miles away for those who prefer a more alternative, earthy experience and the farmer's market on Saturdays has an amazing atmosphere. Bath is 45 minutes away by car and it would be worth a visit to Bath Spa and Thermae baths (book early, over 16's). There is a lot to offer depending what your interests are. Outdoors or comfort: it's entirely up to you.
The nearest airports are Bristol (45 minutes) or Birmingham (1h15). Heathrow/ London is 2 hours away by car in good traffic. Cheltenham & Stroud both have train stations connecting to Bath, Bristol, London (Paddington), Cardiff, Brimingham. Cranham has a bus route to Stroud and Cheltenham.
I would advise the use of a car to really experience the Cotswolds. We are respectful people and will look after your home as if it was our own and welcome offers from those who would do the same.
