About our home
According to mythology, on the sixth day of creation God scattered the final precious fragments at random, across the heavens, landing in the open sea off the Scottish coastline, they shaped into a curving necklace of sparkling jewels. These Jewels are now known as The Hebrides........
Situated in a historic listed building on Stornoway's prestigious Matheson Road, Cairn Dhu Apartment offers spacious 4-star accomodation and has been completely modernised to offer all the latest facilities and guest comforts. Tastefully decorated throughout with a large leather corner suite and a king-size leather bed, LCD satellite TV, and free wi-fi access. Relax and unwind. There is private parking, and a private garden patio area with table and chairs.
Ideally situated just minutes from Stornoway town centre on Matheson Road - the capital of the Isle of Lewis, making it the ideal place to discover all the Outer Hebrides have to offer. Matheson Road has an incredible and beautful feature, its famous, listed, decorative wrought iron railings. The whole street has its railings in tact, most of the UK lost them during the war, as Stornoway was too far out for them to be reclaimed for the war efffort, they all remain in tact, Its lovely just to walk the street, looking at the designs and seeing where they were manufactured. Fascinating!
Just a minutes walk from Lews Castle with its beautiful gardens and golf course. Top quality restaurants, butchers selling the world-famous Stornoway black pudding and other fabulous meats, the harbour with fishing boats and seals, many shops, banks and other facilities.
Nearby beaches have just been voted in the top ten of the worlds greatest beaches. It may be the Hebrides best kept secrets, but the beaches here are massive, clean, pristine and best of all, not a soul in sight and as said, recently voted amongst the worlds best, who needs to go to the Carribean? Many of these beaches are in designated area's of natural outstanding beauty.
Surfing is popular here and offers some of the best surfing in th UK, there are a host of outdoor activities, from Kayaking, rafting, paintballing, go-karting, mountaineering and a host of others.
Shopping here is all about quality local produce, The world Famous Harris Tweed is a great example, quality and fashion from bags, skirts almost everything. It is understandbale why world famous designers and clothing manufactures such as Vivian Westwood and Nike clamour to use this still handwoven at home material and a court ruling means that it can only be woven in the Outer Hebrides, nowhere else. You can buy these from high street shops in Stornoway and still from the homes where the tweed is spun. Home made produce, in local delicatessans, butchers and choclatiers are a few of many delightful shopping experiences around the island along with museums and art galleries.
History and culture are everywhere, Lewis is home to the world famous Lewis Chess pieces which are currently back home on display. The Callanish stones, older than stonehenge are just a 15 minute drive as well as some of the best preserved brochs in the country. There are numerous stone circles, and standing stones, the whole area is rich with them. Iron age dwellings, such as the one on Bosta beach all add to a fascinating break.
Wildlife bounds, flora and fauna, rich in every area, the waters around the area are also rich, with whales, dolphins and rare species of all types.
St Kilda, a world heritage site, is a day trip away, this breathtaking trip and island are a must see, see the islands rich but sometimes sad history, truly fascinating and certainly a memorable day out. Easy to arrange we can help with this and more....
Lewis is easy to access by aeroplane or ferry but sits on the edge of the world, there is such a rugged beauty in the landscapes and beaches, some still forming, the pounding on the beaches from huge waves rolling across the atlantic are majestic yet heartstopping. Lewis is a must see, a thing to do before you die, add it to your bucket list now....
