About our home

Our stunning home is used frequently for entertaining, with a little over 5,000 square feet, and a fabulous back yard with large outdoor wrap-around bar/kitchen, surround sound, pool w/ spa, firepit, putting green, fruit orchard, and mountain views galore. From the upstairs balcony, you can see the ocean. Typical of the Southern California lifestyle, we live outside as much as inside and are very casual! Our home has wood floors throughout, 2 staircases, custom lighting, formal dining room that seats 12, original art and antiques, and is impeccably maintained. We live in Rancho Santa Fe, one of the most exclusive areas in Southern California and in the US, and have easy access to all of the ammenities of San Diego (golf, beaches, world famous San Diego Zoo, Theme Parks, Professional Sports, shopping, dining, night life) as well as quick access north to Orange County and/or Los Angeles. While our home has a fabulous pool and back yard, which most people never want to leave, our neighborhood does have a wonderful central clubhouse with state-of-the-art gym, jr. olympic sized pool, parks and outdoor kitchens. For peace of mind, we live in a guard gated community. We have a gardener and housekeeper that come every other week, however the housekeeper is available more frequently.

I (Kate) am a Sr. Finance Executive, and my husband (Dale) has the luxury of staying home with our 3 kids: Grant (12), Gavin (10) and Lael (7) and also coaching their sports teams. We take great pride in our home, as do our kids, and would treat another's home the same as we do ours.

We are interested in traveling to Europe without our children toward the end of summer, however will also be traveling later this year with them (destination unknown!), as well as next summer, likely to London.

We are open to travel to London, Western Europe, New York and ski locales (primarily around school holidays).

3 things they loved about the swap:
  • The home is like a resort in itself, not to mention the beautiful and peaceful neighborhood.
  • The owners are so kind. They went out of their way to make sure we had lots of information about the area.
  • It was just the perfect balance of things to do and not doing anything!

How much they saved: It would be impossible to say. Staying in such a stunning private home is not usually even an option when renting for a week.
