Interested in exchanging your home in Australia? Over the years, both Carmen and her partner Peter have travelled around the world through their work. Now semi-retired, they were looking to continue travelling but in a whole new way. That’s when they discovered home swapping.

Since joining a few years ago, the couple have done an incredible 12 swaps in total through Love Home Swap – including a classic swap to this luxury villa in Aquitaine, France, a points swap to this converted Chapel in The Peak District National Park, and a classic swap to this stylish villa in Bali, Indonesia.

“We were tired of expensive impersonal hotels and we wanted to explore countries and cities from a real home with time, without needing to move on quickly from one hotel to another.”

The couple home swap their stunning duplex in Sydney, which has incredible views over Berry’s Bay and Sydney harbour.

“Our favourite thing about living here is the proximity to everything the city has to offer with the tranquillity of our area that feels miles away from the noise of a big city.”

We asked how Carmen how she found the whole process of home swapping initially,

“To start with it was a bit challenging because you are opening your home to people that you don’t really know, but after a few years of wonderful swapping we found that the members of LHS (Love Home Swap) are respectful, and treat us as good friends, helping with local information and wondering home instructions that made our stay simple and welcoming.”

“For us the presentation of LHS is very important; showing who you are, your interests, whether It is a whole family swapping or not, the presentation of your home with pictures showing how you live. Those who don’t present this information don’t do themselves any favour.”

In terms of the difference between home swapping with Love Home Swap compared to other more conventional ways to travel, including hotels, resorts and rentals, Carmen mentioned the importance of mutual respect amongst members.

“We found that the members of LHS that we swap with, treated our home as theirs, with respect and care. For us this is one of the best values of LHS. We found excellent people who were interested in our home and our city and the value of respect for someone else’s property.”

“Our swaps have been great fun, with time to know the people around the homes we were swapping, the local pubs and the neighbourhood. It is an excellent way of travelling and meeting new friends, most of whom we have staying in contact.”
