Jane first joined Love Home Swap just over a year ago for her property in London. Since then, Jane has been able to do 14 swaps so far (including points), with another 4 trips planned already!
Now based in Singapore with her partner, Jane wanted to make the most of their place in London when they both weren’t using it outside of the winter months. We wanted to find out what inspired Jane to consider home swapping, which turns out was a rather unusual experience!
“I did a TV programme on BBC1 called 'Home away from home' where we were filmed doing a house swap for four days. I loved the experience and said on television that I would do house swapping in the future."
Jane saw home swapping as an exciting opportunity to travel more and also save some money in the process. "I was attracted to house swapping to try and save hotel bills for my business. We also love travelling and I'm always keen to visit somewhere new so it seemed a no Brainer”
Most recently, Jane stayed in Jose’s place in Lagos, Portugal as part of an indirect swap, where Jose will be staying at Jane's this October.
“We had a wonderful time in Jose's apartment. It was ideally located to the beach (with a wonderful beach bar for lunch) and we loved the large swimming pool on site. The walk in to the centre of Lagos took around 20 minutes and we found some great eateries. Our long weekend was very relaxing and we can't wait to return."
Her experience of speaking with other members on the platform was simple as well, mentioning that “Jose was extremely helpful and his communication was fast and easy.”
Since an experienced swapper, we thought it was best to see what advice Jane could give those interested in swapping their homes…
“If you are looking to swap ensure that you have beautiful photos of your home and showcase it to your best including images of the local area. Keep your calendar up-to-date and always reply quickly”
It’s also important to make each swap experience personal. This way, it makes each swapper feel like they’re as comfortable as they would be in their own home whilst on holiday.
“During every swap we leave our home well presented with some key groceries in the fridge and this always goes down well and received good feedback”
Jane mentioned being flexible with dates is always a good thing in securing swaps.“It helps if you can be a little open-minded and would definitely suit those who are seeking an experience or love travel”
In terms of future plans and holidays, she is always looking for somewhere new to travel...
“I am always on the move with my work and my next swap is for the country living fair in Harrogate. Next year we already have swaps lined up in Australia, France, Portugal and Spain”.
