Every year, millions of tourists flock to England’s dramatic coastlines, bustling cities, pretty villages and spectacular walking routes – and happily, our members have loads of gorgeous home swap properties on the doorstep of these iconic destinations and experiences. So whether you’re staycationing in the UK or travelling from overseas, make sure you check out this roundup of just a few of the top things to see and do in England.

London

London is a great place to have on your list. With an array of famous and historic tourist sites to explore such as the London Eye, the Tower of LondonBig Ben and St Paul’s Cathedral, you’ll never run out of places to go. And while these attractions are undeniably fantastic, there are so many other things to do and explore in London that are off the beaten track. This list of 55 quirky and unusual things to do in London is a great starting point.

St Paul’s Cathedral, London

A trip to London isn’t complete without visiting an amazing rooftop bar to enjoy a money-can't-buy experience. Appreciate London’s skyline at Radio, which has stunning views over the Strand and the River Thames, or book a table at Madison to enjoy cocktails while feasting your eyes on St Paul’s Cathedral. With plenty of outdoor seating, this is the most idyllic spot to watch the sunset. You can eat at both venues – but with thousands of restaurants to choose from in London, it would be shame to not try out a few more options! Our members and staff suggest these top tried-and-tested options: If you love good Mexican food, head to Corazon in Soho, or if tasty and affordable Italian food is your style, try Padella. If you’re looking for somewhere fancier (and with stunning views) then check out The Oxo Tower, or try one of the restaurants at The Shard. If you're not thirsty, but you’d like to take in some stunning views of London, consider booking a ticket to the Sky Garden which is London’s highest public garden. These tickets get snapped up really quickly, so make sure you book in advance!

After all that excitement, you’ll need somewhere to stay, so take a look at these gorgeous London home swaps, perfect for solo travellers, families and couples. This elegant London townhouse sleeps four and is based in Angel, London. Perfectly tranquil, despite being in the heart of the hustle and bustle of the capital city, the house is located near the tube station (which provides you with direct access to  London’s many tourist destinations) plus Regents Canal. Consider walking the towpath to Camden, explore the quirky boutiques and wind down in one of the many local beer gardens.

Newcastle

If you’re looking for a fantastic travel experience in England, then the glorious city of Newcastle should be high on your itinerary. As a university city, you’ll find a rich cultural history, with an amazing nightlife and great shopping experiences. The official tourism board website is jam-packed with great ideas on things to do in Newcastle, including visiting the Angel of the North in Gateshead and walking the Quayside to take in the seven impressive bridges that span the River Tyne. For an incredible and unforgettable afternoon tea or cake, you must try The Great British Cupcakery!

The beautiful seaside town of Tynemouth near Newcastle should also be on your must-see list. While Newcastle is by no means known for its beaches, Tynemouth Longsands is only a short thirty-minute metro ride away from Newcastle city centre - and this gorgeous area has to be seen to be believed. If you’re looking for a beautiful beach that’s not completely overcrowded, this is your place!
