Within a short drive you have many restaurant and food choices. Everything from tasty takeaways, gourmet restaurants and the local sports centre/restaurants which has many food areas including buffets. You could budget for a big filling $10 meal or fine dining which is usually around $30 for the main course and $14 for the entree. Those are just a few minutes drive, the Gold Coast has so many dining options and I am happy to suggest some that suit individual tastes.
The hinterland is a close drive away and you can be walking in the mountains or sampling wine in one of the many wineries the Gold Coast has to offer. There are fantastic art galleries and speciality shops galore. But if nature is your thing I promise you can get away from all the glitz and shops in moments. We can recommend lots of great walks for all skill levels.
We are just under 10 minutes from the motorway taking you further down the coast or up to Brisbane. On a light traffic day you can be in Brisbane in 45 minutes (please allow for much more time in rush hour just like any metropolitan area around the world). Byron Bay in New South Wales is just an hour away. There are many great suggestions for heading North or South.
The major theme parks are 10 minutes from the house after a very easy route. Generally you can buy either a pass that covers Movie World/Wet & Wild/Seaworld OR Dreamworld/White Waterworld/Sky Point but you may find an option for all of them through a travel agent.
The Gold Coast Arts Centre is approximately 20 minutes away and holds live performances, gallery showings, movies etc This is well worth looking up if you love the Arts!
Also, less than 10 minutes away are 2 major shopping areas.
-Westfield Helensvale is a mall style shopping centre with lots of chain fashion shops, eateries and boutique shops (our favourite is 'Love that Book'!). On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights there is 'night quarter' with music, market stalls, bars, and lots of food and drink sellers.
-Harbourtown is a large complex with, major quality brands selling discounted items, large cinema (movies, $8.50 adult or Gold Class $20) and restaurants galore.
There are so many beach options with the closest an easy 10 minutes spreading down to the southern beaches. If you ask a local they will tell you which ones have no waves for little children to the best surfing options.
There are wildlife parks to hold koalas and see Kangaroos...
Australians love their coffee and the Gold Coast is no exception with lovely coffee shops always close by. In fact there is one in the kitchen just waiting for you with coffee beans ready to go : )
