About our home

LOOKING FOR SWAPS for a house/apartment that can sleep 5 (2 adults+3 kids) in Italy or France for July 2018.

The Cottage is an original 1860s Balmain worker's cottage, extensively enlarged and redesigned in 2003.

You'll find the house tucked away in a quiet one-way street in the trendy harbour-side suburb of Balmain. The house is a minute's walk away from the hustle and bustle of Balmain's famous Darling Street with its cafes, shops, pubs, restaurants and wine bars. We have a lovely park at the end of our street, the Thames St Wharf for the ferry into Circular Quay is an 8-minute walk from the house, and the bus into the city centre is 3-minute walk away.

The house has four large bedrooms sleeping 7 (two double rooms, a twin room and a single room), 2 bathrooms, a small but beautifully secluded walled garden, a large open plan living and dining area complete with wood-burning stove, a kitchen that opens out onto a garden room, and a large verandah at the front of the house overlooking the street.

More about us

  1. Robert is Australian and an industrial designer/engineer; Andrea is originally from Scotland but has lived in Sydney for 20 years. She has worked in publishing and health care communications and is now a lecturer at Sydney University. We have three girls aged 14, 13 and 10.

  2. We have family in England and Scotland (so don't usually need a house swap in the UK), and are travelling to Europe in July 2018.

  3. We are interested in house swaps during the school holidays in Dec 2016/Jan 2017 to somewhere on the coast in Australia; and for July 2018 to Italy or France. We are alway open to swaps in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia. We like homes with character, in the bush, near the beach or just in beautiful locations.
