About our home

The Boat House is a bright and beautiful beach house exuding warmth and comfort in the heart of Barwon Heads, Victoria at the start of the famous Great Ocean Road. It's the perfect family home away from home.

The bright and luxuriously comfortable open plan living and dining area is a beautiful place to unwind after a day at the beach. It's got a gas fire place for cooler nights and air conditioning and a fan for warmer nights.

The well-equipped kitchen includes an electric oven and gas stove, stainless steel fridge-freezer, dishwasher, coffee machine, kettle, toaster and an array of cooking equipment and utensils for the avid home cook. Should you opt to eat out, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance.

The house opens out onto a large sunny back deck with BBQ and outdoor lounge setting to relax and a drink on those warm Barwon evenings. There's also an outdoor shower and a deliciously deep claw foot bath with hot and cold water.

The main bedroom has a queen size bed with an ensuite. The second room has two single beds and the third bedroom had has two singles which can be pushed together to make a queen bed (please advise on booking if this is required).

The fourth ‘bedroom' is a very cool refurbished 1970's Franklin caravan in my backyard which has a queen size bed and small kitchenette which is available for use.

The final space is a recently created 'kids zone' room in the garage - here you'll find lots of toys, games, books and a smart tv. It is furnished with bean bags and a day bed (which converts to a queen bed).

The house also has everything you need for children, so just bring yourselves as everything (including portacots, baby bath and high chairs) are available.

The laundry is fully equipped with washing machine, dryer and clothes line. There's also an outdoor clothes line.

The main bedroom has its own ensuite and the second bathroom features a bath with a shower. The toilet room has separate access.

The entire property has wifi connectivity. Netflix and Stan available along with a comprehensive dvd library.

Parking is available on the property and there is ample parking on the street.

Guests will have access to the entire property. No amenities are shared.

We will not be present during the stay and will have no direct interaction with the guests - it is a private residence. However, you will have our contact details and we will be on hand should you require any assistance during your stay.

This house is my principal place of residence but I rent it out during the summer holidays from late December to the end of January. If you are interested in staying at my home over the Australian summers of 2020 and 2021 please get in touch - happy to swap directly or using points. I am particularly interested in swapping with homes in USA, England, Scotland, Denmark, Germany and France as we will be travelling to these countries in 2021.

Neighbourhood

Barwon Heads is a holiday town nestled between the mouth of the Barwon River and the roaring surf of Thirteenth Beach. Barwon Heads has a dream position with a mix of gentle estuary, rocky coastal headland and ocean beaches.

Families swim in the shallows of the inlet after a solid session at the playground, while serious surfers spend time at nearby 13th Beach where the waves pound in from Bass Strait.

You couldn’t find a better mix of retail and hospitality than Hitchcock Avenue. Excellent coffee spots will break up a trip down the street to pick up wine, shoes, books, homewares and everything in between.

Golfers have got it made with three of the top 30 public access courses in Australia woven into the dunes just outside town: Barwon Heads Golf Club and the two at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links. While the Barwon Heads Airport is the launching place for all manner of sky-high adventure: scenic flights, aerobatic adventures and skydiving with epic views of the coast.

Coogee Court is friendly and peaceful. The Skate Park and Pirate Park playground are at the end of our street. The beach is not far and it is just a 5 minute walk to the centre of Barwon Heads.

Buzzy restaurants
I love Beach House, At The Heads and Annies. Further afield, Jack Rabbit is highly recommended - it has a beautiful restaurant attached to a winery. It also a more chilled cafe. Flying Brick Cider House, Basil’s Farm and Oakdene all come highly recommended too.
Cool bars
The deck at At The Heads is hard to beat for its view. The Barwon Heads pub often has live bands and has a great bar too. Geelong also has a thriving bar scene.
Cozy cafés
Starfish Bakery is my favorite for breakfast and lunch. Coffetti gelato is hard to go past too.
Retail therapy
Rigbys, Kiitos, Moss Grotto, Frith, Ten Thousand Things and Red Dog for clothing and home wares. The Saturday market is also worth a visit.
Bit of culture
Geelong has great art galleries, museums and performing arts. Melbourne, arguably Australia’s cultural capital, isn’t far away either.
Walks in the park
Spoilt for choice with walks along the beach, the river or the bush. There’s a community park right at the end of the street.
Spot of exercise
Surfing, golf, tennis, cycling (Barwon Heads is home to Cadel Evans, Tour de France winner), walking and swimming!
Day tripping
Great Ocean Road, Bellarine Peninsula, Mornington Peninsula, Melbourne, Geelong
