Where is it?

The stately eastern Sydney suburb of Rose Bay sits perched on Sydney Harbour, between Double Bay and Watson’s Bay, just 7km from the city. It’s a neighbourhood known for its grand old buildings and beautiful views.

Rose Bay features some beautiful, well-preserved architecture, such as Rose Bay Cottage, built in 1834, Fernleigh Castle, a sandstone mansion built in 1892, and the Convent of the Sacred Heart, a grand construction built in 1888 which overlooks Rose Bay and houses a Catholic girls’ school and a gothic revivalist chapel.

Rose Bay is also home to some great restaurants. The most notable of these is the hatted Catalina Rose Bay, with its sweeping harbour views and top-level, critically-acclaimed modern Australian fare, with a focus on seafood. There are also many more casual options, such as the classic cafe breakfasts at Bernasconi’s, Single Origin Roasters coffee and no-nonsense food at Rose Bay Diner and the dog and child-friendly Sugar & Spoon Cafe.

Explore the annual Rose Bay Fair and experience the neighborhood's friendly village atmosphere. Taking place in October, it's a great day out for the whole family, with rides (including a jumping castle), entertainment and over 1,000 market stalls. Proceeds from the fair go to Sydney Children's Hospital as well as other local and Rotary charities.

The easiest way to get to Rose Bay is by ferry, with services departing regularly from Circular Quay and taking less than 10 minutes. Since 1938, seaplanes have landed in Sydney Harbour at Rose Bay. You can still catch a seaplane into the bay today or take a scenic fly-and-dine trip or a tour of the area by air. Rose Bay is also the ideal spot to head off on a neighbourhood tour. Try a 5-star tour of Rose Bay and the beautiful surrounding area.
