'Serenity' is a charming white weatherboard beach-house in a very quiet street near the Blairgowrie/Sorrento border on the Mornington Peninsula. The house is painted white throughout and provides a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. Following a recent extension, the house is best described in two parts: original and new.
The original front part of the house has 'shabby chic'decor and includes two bedrooms, lounge room, dining area, kitchen and bathroom. The two bedrooms are delightful with large corner windows allowing light and breezes to flow through. Both bedrooms have comfortable king size beds.
The lounge has a gas fire, large windows overlooking the gardens, TV etc. There is an open dining area with a large retro laminex table seating eight people. The kitchen has a dishwasher, full fridge freezer and microwave. The bathroom has a shower and separate toilet.
The new part of the house has an extremely large master bedroom with wall mounted TV/DVD and air conditioner, a walk in robe, a very light and spacious bathroom with bath & shower and a large laundry (with washing machine and dryer). The large master bedroom opens out through sliding doors onto a large west facing deck for glorious sunshine.
The deck area overlooks lush gardens and has a gourmet gas BBQ, a large outdoor table that seats 10 people and a large market umbrella.
This property is fully fenced and pet friendly.

“Chris and Steve were wonderful first time xchangers and will go on to enjoy many more I am sure. The house is in an ideal position close to the bay, back beach and Sorrento. The luxurious master bedroom and ensuite was a highlight! Although we were just 2 humans and 2 dogs the house would be great for a bigger family with heaps of comfortable bedrooms and spacious decks. “Chris and Steve’s home was beautiful, it was so spacious and comfortable. The rooms were stunning, the main bedroom had a spacious bathroom and doors that opened directly onto the deck. It was like waking up in a five star hotel each morning. The house was lovely and private and just a short drive from the beautiful beach and restaurants in Blairgowrie. Chris are a really lovely couple and we loved meeting them. This wonderful relaxing home, is a great place to stay. ”
“We were lucky enough to spend 1 week in Melbourne here and would highly recommend it. Very clean, modern and efficient- everything you need to make a great home stay. A short 15 walk to the tram or train and into the CBD in anther 15 minutes or so- many shops/restaurants within a short walk from the home as well. Can walk to botanic gardens as well. If you are interested in Melbourne this is a great place to stay. Highly recommended and very kind and gracious owners.”
“I had three house exchanges three weeks in a row in January 2014 and everyone of them was fantastic. Serenity, owned by Steve and Chris, was the last one and it was a fabulous place for our last week of travelling. The house is a 10 min walk to the beach and is in a quiet location with lots of lovely trees and shrubs which make you feel as though you are alone although the neighbours are actually right next door. The house has four bedrooms - the master area is huge with a lovely bathroom and walk in robe. It faces onto a large deck and a teak table with ten chairs which is where we spent most of our time. The area has lots to explore with great beaches, wineries and shops. Chris and Steve were fabulous and to be honest the experience of the three exchanges were all flawless. I am extremely grateful to them for their generosity's I know this was a peak rental period for them yest they let us stay there at that time. Thanks.”
My husband and I are now both in our 50s. I was a geography teacher for 10 years and I now work in the Environmental Department of our State Government. My husband has a property maintenance business. We live in Melbourne (South Yarra) and love spending time at our beach house on the Mornington Peninsula on weekends with our family and friends. We are looking for opportunities to exchange time at our beach home for overseas locations. We have a preference for non-simultaneous exchanges as we find that this works best. We are both working full time so our vacation time is limited to a few weeks per year. We sometimes travel with a family member or close friend or two. Our beach home is usually rented over the peak holiday time between 20 December and late January and generally not available for exchange at this time. We have completed seven wonderful home exchanges in the last few years - both within Australia and in Italy, France, Croatia, Vanuatu and Colorado. We have met most of the lovely people who have shared their homes with us and we feel very fortunate to be part of this very special exchange network.
Sorrento/Blairgowrie is on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula a 1 hour and 15mins drive south east from the Melbourne CBD. The house is located at the narrowest part of the Peninsula and from there it is an 8 minute walk to the front bay beach (Blairgowrie) and a 12 minute walk to the back ocean beach (Koonya Beach). In terms of driving it is only a few minutes drive to the historic township of Sorrento where there is an abundance of cafes, pubs, day spas and shopping options. Portsea Village is a further 5 minute drive along the coast.
The area is surrounded by magnificent beaches, ranging from calm shallow and clear waters in the bay (for swimming, kayaking and sailing) to exquisite turquoise rockpools (perfect for snorkeling) along the ocean beaches to some of the best surf beaches in Victoria, at Portsea and Gunnamatta. Diving and fishing are popular seaside activities in the area with a number of diving and fishing charters available.
If you enjoy golf then there are numerous championship courses for your enjoyment in the area. Tennis courts are available to hire.
A visit to the Red Hill wine region will take 20 minutes by car. Here you can visit a myriad of wineries and taste world famous pinot noir and chardonnay wines. There are also magnificent restaurants and al fresco dining options in and around Red Hill.
From Sorrento you can take a ferry (on foot or with a car)across the bay (30 minutes) to explore the charming seaside town of Queenscliff. This also provides access to the south west coast of Victoria, including the Great Ocean Road.
