What can we say? We live in paradise.
Our split-level townhouse sits on the Nerang River in the city of the Gold Coast, about an hour on the train from Brisbane International Airport. Our home is part of a complex with a full-sized tennis court, large swimming pool, two saunas, hot tub and river jetty for fishing. The house is air-conditioned and has three double bedrooms and a study. Parking for two cars is immediately at the door. The main bedroom has views across the river to the mountains covered in rain forest, also called the Hinterland. These areas are perfect for day trips and have excellent hiking trails with waterfalls and all manner of interesting Australian wildlife.
The suburb, Sorrento, is quiet and prestigious and the local area is vacation-oriented with many attractions nearby for adults and children. The Pacific ocean is within 5 km and features world-class waves (our closest beach is actually named "Surfer's Paradise"). There are numerous international-standard golf courses near-by. Our state's only casino is within 8 km and 2 km up our street there's horse racing every Saturday at the Gold Coast's Turf Club, which doubles as a Farmers' Market on Sundays.
Six major theme parks are located within 25 km from our home. Sea World has a range of marine wildlife from sea anemones from the Great Barrier Reef to polar bears. You can also pay extra to get in the water and swim with dolphins, sharks, etc. It also has some rollercoasters and a park for small children.
Wet'n'Wild Water Park is equally excellent for the big kids (6+) and the small ones. It's also heated and we've spent many a winter's day there.
Warner Brothers' Movie World has a superhero theme (Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, etc.) and features some very fast roller coasters but there's also a great area for small children.
Dream World is known for its Tiger Island where you can view tigers interacting with their trainers, or if you're brave enough, you can too. It also has an excellent range of rides for kids of all ages. White Water World is situated next door to Dream World and is similar to Wet'n'Wild.
Currumbin Sanctuary is very popular with the international tourists as this is where you can see the salt-water crocodiles or walk amongst kangaroos and wallabies and feed them by hand. You can also have your picture taken while you cuddle a koala bear. The highlight of the Sanctuary for the bigger kids is the Green Challenge High Ropes Course where you shuffle from treetop to treetop on tightropes (yes they give you a harness with TWO carabiners! Very safe - even I've done it and I've never been an adrenaline junkie).
There is plenty of shopping close by from designer fashion to electronics and homewares.
We are happy for you to use our cars; one is a Toyota Rav SUV and the other an Audi A3. They are insured for any licensed driver.
The climate on the Gold Coast is sub-tropical, with September-December and March-May being very pleasant. January and February are the warmest time of the year, with an average max of 28 degrees C. June-August is our "winter" so it is relatively cool with an average of 21 degrees C by day and 12 degrees by night. Due to the pleasant climate, the friendly locals, the natural beauty and of course the family-orientated activities available, the Gold Coast consistently ranks as the most popular tourist destination amongst "Aussies."
Nigel has a 13 yr old boy and a 18 month old girl.

Nigel is looking for someplace very close to skiing for the next winter holiday, and anywhere in Europe for summers.
