About our home

Our house is an early 20th century Californian bungalow, renovated by us in 2012. It is a spacious passive solar house with large north facing windows, an abundance of recycled Australian timbers, solar energy, rainwater tanks, and all natural non-toxic materials. There is a large open plan kitchen, living and dining. Upstairs is a parents retreat with walk-in-robes, bathroom, master bedroom, balcony with views of the merry creek nature reserve and an office. Down stairs are another three bedrooms and bathroom. We have a foodies kitchen with a great oven, coffee machine and everything you need to cook up a storm. The house is double glazed and has hydronic central heating and fantastic insulation everywhere so it is warm and cosy all year round. The really special thing about our house is that is it is one of the most desirable and vibrant inner city villages Melbourne has to offer, but it is tucked down a cul-de-sac, backing onto the beautiful Merri creek and looking out onto huge native gum trees that line the creek. It is a real secret oasis in the city. Off the lounge and dining is a large north facing deck for outdoor entertaining. There is a productive garden full of fruit trees, a children's cubby house, herbs and vegies. Due the the nature reserve and creek behind the house we have visits from many beautiful birds including kookaburras and tawny frog mouth owls and lots of other creatures such as blue tongue lizards.
The house is decorated in an eclectic mix of mid century style, antiques and contemporary art and design pieces. It is very comfortable and pleasant to be in, flooded with natural light all day, with lots of beautiful collectables, books and original artworks. This house has been featured in design and architecture magazines, but is very comfortable and homely.
