About our home

Lonely Planet recently listed Canberra number three in their list of the top ten world's best cities to visit in 2018, mentioning its unique sense of style, cool bars, cafes and endless family friendly entertainment.
We live in a quiet area just a few minutes' walk from Mulligan's Flat Woodland Sanctuary where there are many beautiful country walks. Our home is light and modern and well equipped. It has two bedrooms each with a queen size bed, two bathrooms, a study, a large open plan kitchen/living and dining room, a smaller lounge room, a laundry and a double attached garage with a Tesla high power wall charger. Please feel free to charge your electric vehicle with the HPWC or ordinary household power point. The living area leads onto a secluded paved courtyard which is lovely for outdoor dining.

More about us

  1. NB The recommendations refer to our previous home in Merimbula, NSW.
We are a married couple in our late 60s and are both retired. In our working lives Pam was a teacher and Stan an epidemiologist. We are enthusiastic about sharing our beautiful part of the country and would make you very welcome in our home. We are both non-smokers and take great care of our home, as we would yours. We enjoy gardening, cooking, dining, music (especially opera), walking, reading, photography, visiting museums and galleries and travelling.
Please contact us if you have any questions regarding our area. We reply to all contacts.
We would love to have an exchange in northern Italy for a few weeks in order to improve our Italian conversation.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

We live in the suburb of Forde in the north of Canberra, Australia's National Capital. Our suburb is reasonably new and well planned and has lots of pretty walks and cycle paths. We are very close to Mulligan's Flat Woodland Sanctuary where you are able to walk in bush land and see native animals (especially kangaroos) and birds. There are also lovely shorter walks around the suburb to playgrounds and a series of small lakes. Our small local shopping centre is a 5 minute walk away and has a small supermarket, a great café, a take-away shop, a good Chinese restaurant, a chemist, and a small swim school. Less than 10 minutes by car there is the larger Gungahlin shopping centre with a Post Office, doctors, dentists, chemists, 3 large supermarkets, banks, a library, many cafes and restaurants and a good selection of different shops.
There is a good bus service with connections to the centre of Canberra and a new light rail service is being built which is expected to be in operation in late 2018. Canberra has a rail station with connections to Sydney, a long distance coach station and an airport with direct international flights to New Zealand and Singapore as well as domestic flights across Australia.
Being the National Capital, Canberra has many attractions to explore, some examples are: Old and New Parliament Houses, The National Gallery, National Museum, National Portrait Gallery, Questacon (Science Museum), National Library, National Zoo and Aquarium, Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra Arboretum, The War Memorial, Canberra Reptile Zoo, Cockington Green Gardens (miniature villages), many parks and recreational areas.
