About our home

My beautiful home is in Freshwater a quiet leafy suburb of Cairns with views across the Barron Delta to the Coral Sea. Set on a hill side with gardens on three levels, secluded swimming pool and a large deck area perfect for outdoor living. 3 bedrooms and a study. 2 bathrooms, the main bedroom has an ensuite while the main bathroom has a double shower. Modern kitchen a delight to cook in, walking distance to Skyrail/ Kuranda train connection. 15 minutes drive to the beaches or to the city for that reef adventure departure

Features

More about us

  1. I live alone now my children are adults. I share my home with my gorgeous Lurcher and my Russian Blue cat, both of whom will be at their respective resorts while I holiday.

  2. I lead an exciting double life running my own boutique Family Law firm during the week as well as being a practising artist, specialising in every day beach scenes and large floral paintings.

  3. My home is a modern 3 bedroom home set in a quiet leafy neighbourhood. It is quite private. Once you walk in the front door the rest of the world disappears. My home has split system air conditioners throughout, with each bedroom having its own air conditioner. My home has a large undercover deck that has magnificent views across the valley and to the north. From the deck, where breakfast is a delight, depending on the time of year, arriving planes float towards the airport, which is only 12 minutes away but because I am in a valley, the sound of the airport is rarely heard, Usually my home is filled with my own original artwork reflecting my interest in this tropical lifestyle, except when I am having an exhibition. My home is wheelchair/walker accessible, with entry ramps at front and rear entrances. The home is all on one level but the gardens and swimming pool are on several levels. There is a large dining room, perfect for entertaining, an occasional room with flat screen smart TV and a sitting room, the ideal spot to curl up and read a good book if you can tear yourself away from the view.

Neighbourhood

Buzzy restaurants
The Barron, a licensed bistro style restaurant within walking distance set in the Freshwater Railway Station, jumping off point to Kuranda Rail trip. Food is sensational. You can even ask to dine in one of the gorgeous old railway carriages - very romantic
Cool bars
Not really bars, but Red Beret at Redlynch, and Barron River at Stratford are local hotels with good dining offered - Both can be reached on a nice long walk, about 2k with each offering a courtesy bus service to pick you up and take you home at the end of the evening
Cozy cafés
Le Crouton, a cute cafe opens 7am and serves fab pastries and coffees - THe Vines a garden cafe set in Limberlost Nursery, both within walking distance of my home
Retail therapy
Cairns Central, inner City, 15 minutes drive away, Smithfield Shopping Centre 12 minutes drive or shop fashions on Grafton Street in the city and explore the various arcades with interesting little designer boutiques
Bit of culture
Tjapukai indigenous centre is 12 minutes drive for an authentic indigenous cultural experience. In the city, the Regional Art Gallery has an amazing collection of art and changes exhibitions regularly, COCA on Grafton is a more contemporary exhibition space, free entry.
Walks in the park
Freshwater is very pretty and very walkable. If you feel more adventurous, the cane paddocks nearby offer wonderful bird life. Cairns botanical gardens, 12 minutes drive, offers magnificent tropical gardens and many walking paths. Its in a quaint village style atmosphere with nearby cafes offering gourmet treats
Spot of exercise
Try the Red Arrow walk from the Botanical Gardens for a brisk workout or take your time and try the longer Blue Arrow. Overlooking the international airport these tracks are very popular with those seeking a bit of high energy workout in the rainforeset
Day tripping
More reef and rainforest trips than you can imagine. Many of the tour operators will pick you up from the nearby Freshwater Railway Station . Numerous cruise and dive boat tours leave from the wharf precinct daily. Green Island is a perennial favourite, Fitzroy Island is charming and laid back both 50 minutes by fast luxurious vessels, or drive up to POrt Douglas along the most scenic drive in Australia, overlooking the Coral Sea along the way. The Atherton Tablelands is also a popular destination, offering a temperate climate in the tropics with magnificent rainforests. Picnic at Palm Cove or any of the many nearby beaches. Palm Cove is the most popular beach suburb, 25 minutes drive from my home but other nearby beaches are charming and uncrowned too. All beaches have stinger net enclosures in the summer but in the winter, the most magnificent time of the year in the tropics, the beaches are stinger free and for thos who live in cooler climes, the water is warm and welcoming
