About our home

Our house is a large 1930s family home typical of the suburb. It has three bedrooms, a large eat-in kitchen, a formal loungeroom, a formal dining room, a casual family room, a study, a main bathroom and a combined laundry/second bathroom. There is a back deck which overlooks the back garden. In the back yard there is an old fenced spa pool which has been converted to a fish pond (fine to dangle your feet in if it is hot). There is also an outside toilet. The yard is pretty maintenance free. The house has ceiling fans, two air conditioners, and two gas heaters. It is a very comfortable home.

More about us

  1. We are a retired couple in our sixties - an ex high school science teacher and a university administrator. We love to travel, the cheaper the better, to allow more travel in the future. We haven't been anywhere yet that we wouldn't be happy to go to again - England, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Russia, Mongolia, China, Japan, Vietnam, Argentina, Chile. There are many other exciting places on our bucket list.

Where is it?

Hamilton South is an inner city suburb of Newcastle which is a coastal city a couple of hours (by train or car) north of Sydney. A domestic airport which often has cheap flights to other Australian cities is located 35 minutes away by car (or slightly longer by bus).
Our house is in walking distance of both Bar Beach and Merewether Beach, and the Newcastle Harbour. Other beaches are an easy drive away. It is also in walking distance (15-40 minutes) to shopping centres, restaurants, bars, galleries etc.
Newcastle is the gateway to the Hunter Valley wine region, Port Stephens and the Barrington Tops National Park. Blackbutt Reserve, with its Koala Park, walking tracks and picnic areas is a 15 minute drive from the house.
