About our home

We live in a lovely inner city suburb of Melbourne with river parklands nearby and easy access to the city. It is a peaceful and private setting. We have been here for four years and thoroughly enjoy all it has to offer. Our home is a three level townhouse in a cul-de-sac, with friendly neighbours. We have refurbished the interior and redesigned the courtyard garden to suit our lifestyle, there are shady places to be in summer and sunny places to sit in winter. The ground level has a living/dining area (with views to front and side courtyards), separate kitchen, laundry and w.c. There are two bedrooms on the 1st floor both with queen size beds, a renovated bathroom with walk-in shower and a second w.c. On the top level there is a second living area that we use as an office and reading, music room, a place to relax and enjoy the views. All levels have reverse cycle heating and cooling as well as gas heating in the living/dining area, cosy in winter and cool in summer. There is internet, landline telephone and two TV’s (ground and top floor). The side courtyard includes outside table, seating 6-8, under a wisteria clad pergola and a gas BBQ. The courtyard garden includes camellias, gardenias, crepe myrtle, cumquat tree, Chinese star jasmine with some Australian native plants and a small vegetable and herb patch. We also have 2 undercover, on-site car parks on our property.

More about us

  1. We are Ken and Sylvia, born in the UK, lived most of our lives in Australia and are now retired. We previously worked in senior roles for BMW (Ken) and in public health (Sylvia). We have enjoyed successful exchanges in Ireland, Adelaide, England, France and Sydney so far . . . and are keen to keep on travelling.

During 2018 we are particularly interested in exchanges in Adelaide or Brisbane where we have family and friends.

We hope to travel to the UK and Ireland in 2019.
Ken was born in Southampton and Sylvia in Brighton, We would love to spend 2-3 months experiencing and exploring Europe. We want to catch up with family and friends we rarely see in England, Ireland and The Netherlands.

We are very conscientious and will take good care of your home. We have a healthy 16 year old cat, Luci who would love to remain at home during our absence, if possible. He (there is a story to tell about his name) is very low maintenance and has access to the garden via cat flaps, prefers dry food and needs fresh water daily. Our neighbours are happy to check on him when we are away for a few days.

Neighbourhood

Our suburb, Hawthorn is approximately 4 kilometres from Melbourne's city centre with a choice of public transport - 2 tram lines (2 minute walk) and the train station (a 10 minute walk). River walks and cycling paths are a 5 minute walk. We also walk to the Victoria Gardens shopping complex (supermarket, movie theatres etc). At the end of our street there are local coffee shops, post office, organic grocer, doctor and chemist. Approximately 2 kms away there are more shops, restaurants, cafes, libraries and gyms (with swimming pools), between Bridge and Victoria Roads, Richmond; in Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn and High Street, Kew.

We sometimes take nearby trams to Port Melbourne pier and beach or St Kilda (via the city). The train also makes the Dandenong Ranges easily accessible. These are also easily reached by car.

Melbourne is a cosmopolitan city that prides itself on it's world class coffee, eateries, theatres and art galleries. Sport and outside activities also take pride of place. There are approximately 2,000 kilometres of bike and walking tracks. We have 2 bikes and a full set of right handed golf clubs and many golf courses to choose from. Whether you like to walk, cycle, drive, tram or train it is all very easy from our home.
