About our home

We are a couple with a 6 year son, who are dreaming of a White Christmas, before our little boy of stops believing in the magic of Christmas.
I am an Environmental Scientist and my husband is a Builder – he built our house . We love to travel for adventure but also like to entertain and enjoy a nice red wine. We moved to Newcastle from Manly, Sydney a little over 2 years ago and couldn’t be happy with where we are.
Our home is a rebuilt and renovated miner’s cottage with all the trimmings. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, spacious living areas and a great our door entertaining area. One bed room has a queen bed with walk in robe and en suite, the guest room is detached with a double bed. The 3rd bedroom has two bunk beds and the 4th bedroom is set up as an office
Our suburb Islington / Maryville, which has had a very colorful past in days gone by. It is now a great inner city spot with friendly neighbors and so close to everything - including the Harbor, beaches and cafe and bars. The train and buses are moments away. Our neighbors are fantastic with lots of kids always keen to play or have a glass of wine in the sun. Down the street is huge park with and oval and play equipment, dog park and river
On the weekend we ride everywhere as there is lots of fantastic bike path around the beaches and harbor. The Yacht club and fresh seafood markets are only and few blocks away. In the other direction about 2 blocks away is one of Newcastle main cafe/ restaurant strips.
While we have not exchange our own home we have been on exchanges with my parents all over the world. We would look after your home like it was ours and my husband is a total clean freak!
Newcastle, is the 6th largest city in Australia and is 160km north of Sydney (2hrs by car, 2.5hrs on the train). Newcastle has fantastic beaches for surfing and swimming. Newcastle has a relaxed lifestyle.
The Hunter valley wine region, Port Stephens and Sydney are all close for day trips. Check it out at
Oh and Newcastle was on the lonely planet’s top cities for 2011 -
Bikes, surfboards and a car that could be included with an exchange.
