About our home

Our house is located on 30 acres of land that has the same classification as National Park. It is located in the Strzelecki Ranges in Gippsland, in a large garden of approximately one acre, with pond and a dam. There is reverse cycle air conditioning and an unlimited supply of wood for two wood heaters if needed. It has 3 bedrooms plus a study/bedroom, a family/dining room and kitchen adjacent. It has a lounge room with a music room with a piano. We have solar electricity to supplement the mains supply and a solar hot water service. It has a sun room on the west end and verandah with clear plastic cafe blinds on the east end with a dining tableland 6 chairs, swing couch and is very pleasant particularly in the mornings. We dine most of the year outside on the veranda as it is a great place to observe our many beautiful native birds.
The water supply is rain water and it is very plentiful. There are 2 TV's and iMac computer with large download plus telephone.
The native wildlife visits us regularly and it is not unusual to have koalas grunting outside the bedroom window at night.
Our kangaroos regularly feed on our lawns in the evening, along with wallabies and the occasional wombat and echidnas.
We have walking tracks around the property and down to our creek which is about 200 feet below our house but quite easily accessed by steps and graded path.
Over 40 species of birds, including lyrebirds, have been sighted on the property and their calls are easily heard from the verandah.
Because we have no cat or dog the birds are often quite tame and easily able to be observed from the house.
The closest town Churchill, a University town, is 7 kms from the house and the railway station 16 kms at Morwell where trains to Melbourne depart 19 times a day and 10 to 12 times at weekends and it is a very pleasant 2 hour trip.
The closest surf beach is about an hour away at Inverloch and the ski fields about 1.5 hours traveling in winter. There are several National Parks close by and towns also with good restaurants, shops, indoor swimming pool, art gallery, cinema, etc.
Gippsland is a very interesting part of Victoria with bush, rail trails for cycling, seaside towns and close to mountains, and an old gold mining town Walhalla with a tourist railway.
A Holden Berlina International V6 sedan is available for use and a Toyota Hilux 4 wheel drive seating four. There are also bikes and canoes available if you wish as well as camping equipment.
There are several churches in Churchill and others in surrounding towns.
We are regular attendees at our local Cooperating church which currently has a woman Anglican priest and you would be very welcome to join in our active and friendly congregation.
We have our arborist and handy man who lives close by and attends to any bush dramas at our expense and our daughter and family live close by if needed.
The garden will need no maintenance and there is no threat to safety from our timid kangaroos or other beasties.
