About our home

Our two bedroom home in surburban Brisbane (capital city, Queensland) is in a sub-tropical garden with a large outdoor decking, gazebo and sun verandah. The house is fully furnished and renovated with a new kitchen, bathroom and spa ensuite & reverse cycle air conditioning for the king-size main bedroom. The house is cosily designed for indoor and outdoor living in Brisbane's warm climate. We have a "conservatory" office off the main bedroom. A sunroom creates a delightful breakfast nook and reading area adjoining the garden. The queen-size bed in the second bedroom converts to two singles. The gardens provide a delightful enclave in a street with many trees, yet accessible to the inner city and coast.

More about us

We are a recently semi-retired professional couple who have travelled extensively and now retain a love of travel. Peter has lived in Paris, which he loves, while Denise has undertaken post-graduate study in the United States. Both have held positions in government departments or universities and have a special interest in education and lifelong learning. Peter has children in professional positions in New York, Singapore and Sydney. Denise is of Italian descent and grew up in Far North Queensland. Our love of travel took us to Denmark, Germany, the Baltic & Norway for 2012; France,the Rhine, Nottinghamshire and neighbouring counties in 2011; Sweden, Norway, Austria Germany,USA/Canada in 2010; home exchanging began in France in 2009 (with gardens of Southern England added), and we toured Italy, France and Turkey in 2008. Avid collectors of ethnic crafts, we also have an extensive range of books, CDs and DVDs to enjoy.
In 2013 our travels included the 10th anniversary of the Cork Lifelong Learning Festival, some of Scotland and the Lake District with a dash to New York; and are looking forward to 2014 to cruise the Elbe and take in the mountains and lakes of Austria and Switzerland.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Kenmore is set in green hill country in the west of Brisbane, easily accessible to the city centre with good public transport within 5 minutes walking. There are cafes with a range of cuisines nearby and several large shopping malls for all needs. The area is safe, quiet, green and pleasant. There is a nearby reserve for walking in the bush and parklands for picnicking. Brisbane is a cosmopolitan city with good cultural facilities incl. a performing arts complex, museums, state library, galleries, the former Expo public place with free beach, and with airline access to Australian highlights such as Sydney, the Great Barrier Reef, as well as the Pacific Islands. The Gold Coast (to the south) and Sunshine Coast (to the north) with all their attractions (national parks to beaches) are only one hour away by car. To the hinterland and one is in the valleys and downs of rich rural land of the scenic rim. We do have folders prepared showing key touring, swimming and hiking nearby. However, you might just want to put your feet up and relax in the gazebo with an outlook across the garden.
