About our home

This home was built in 1872, which, for Australia, is worthy of heritage status. The area was the engine of Australia, being dedicated to coal and steel manufacturing. This house was originally a meeting room for the local mine directors. It was extended to accommodate them overnight, and then became a residential dwelling. This coal mines are long gone now, and what remains is a typical country town which nestles in a valley on the edge of the Blue Mountains - so called because the oil from the eucalypts give off a blue haze. The area is a mecca for rock climbers, canyoners, off-roaders, bushwalkers, industrial heritage enthusiasts. The climate is a mix of European - cold winters - and typical Australian - hot summers. Surrounding the town is rural rolling countryside, wilderness, majestic rock formations, gold rush villages, A real mix of environments. Pioneer history abounds, when colonists had to push over the mountains to find grazing land to fee the burgeoning population.
