About our home

Your holiday home near Maleny,(our home) is a large and lovely open-plan modern Queensland house with surrounding verandahs on which to enjoy the Sunshine Coast sub-tropical days, which are particularly good from April to December. We normally take breakfast and lunch on the veranda dining area. Views from here are over lush green rural land and an adjoining small lake. Coffee in the early morning sunshine watching the birds is wonderful. You can enjoy the native birds which also enjoy our hospitality (rainbow loriketts, northern rosellas, galahs, sometimes even the glorious crimson king parrots....and don't forget to feed our family of butcher birds, they may even sing for you). Our home is 3 minutes drive from Maleny, or a 30 minute country stroll away. Our home has four very comfortable bedrooms, the master bedroom with an adjoining bathroom featuring a double spa. Three queen size beds and two singles in four separate rooms are available. Features include a beautiful stained glass window, enclosed fireplace for winter warmth, tiled floors, very high raked ceiling through the living areas giving a great feeling of spaciousness, a good large kitchen and downstairs hobby/computer room. This is easy living while you enjoy the charms of our village and this beautiful area of Australia, and don't forget, it is close by air to Vanuatu, New Hebridies and even new Zealand.

Our Maleny region is in the hinterland behind the beautiful Sunshine Coast, just to the north of Brisbane. (news.visitsunshinecoast.com.au/ and http://www.hinterlandtourism.com.au/) You will be quite close to kilometers of golden sandy beaches, waterways, forest walks and mountain waterfalls. Local produce can be purchased in the village at very reasonable prices. Or you can search out charming and quaint cafes, coffee shops or top class restaurants. (www.spicersgroup.com.au/property/spicers-tamarind/dining-cellar ). The area abounds in quality galleries, www.artoncairncross.com.au is an excellent example.
Driving in the area is easy and always attractive.
The village spirit in Maleny is strong with a large population of artists, musicians, writers and alternative activity creating an exciting cultural experience ( www.upfrontclub.org and www.malenyfilmsociety.org ). The film society screens every second Saturday showing a selection of intermational film in the charming village hall. The atmosphere at the film nights is like a big family gathering with wine and good food. A very local attraction is Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve with excellent views of the iconic Glasshouse Mountains, refer www.mary-cairncross.com.au Also close is "Australia Zoo" where one whole day is not enough. Within easy reach from Maleny is Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island and world heritage listed; a "must-do" for a short tour before heading home after your comfortable stay in our sunny home .
OCEANIA. Inexpensive holidays in the South Pacific are always available, flying or cruising directly from Brisbane. Samoa, Vanuatu, Fiji are just some South Pacific island destinations. Have a look at www.pacificholidays.com.au
Brisbane is a wonderful city to explore (the Gallery of Modern Art is world class http://qag.qld.gov.au ) and is an hour drive away or 1 ¼ hour by local train. The Gold Coast with five theme parks and famous beaches is 2 hours drive.

We are a retired couple (mid-60's although it doesn't feel that way) who take delight in each other's company and in picnics, walking, camping, fishing (but don't catch much) and travel. Bryan served as an engineer in the Royal Australian Air Force resigning after 20 years with the rank of wing commander. In that time Bryan, Val and family enjoyed a two year exchange posting to the UK, taking the opportunity to travel throughout much of Europe. After the RAAF, we owned a variety of cafes and coffee chops while Val also operated her own successful home-based business....and that was a very busy time! We have now retired and wish to travel a little more and look forward to successful and friendly relationships with our future exchange partners. Very friendly neighbours and local friends are available to offer advice and assistance if sought.
