About our home

Our home is an attractive single dwelling brick house on a quarter of an acre. It was completed late December 2005. We designed and built it as a comfortable retirement home with polished timber floors and quality appliances and furnishings. The kitchen has Corian benchtops, timber floors and the kitchen appliances include wall oven, convection/microwave oven, gas wok burner, induction cooktop, extractor range hood, espresso machine, refrigerator and dishwasher. We have a pleasant view of rolling hills with the ocean in the distance (24 kilometres/15 miles away “as the crow flies”).

The house is fully air-conditioned. It has 3 double bedrooms, two bathrooms, lounge, dining room, indoor/outdoor living room and a utility room that has a laundry with washer & dryer and office area (with internet access). There is a spacious deck that looks over rural land and the sea in the distance. We have a double lock up garage. Our car is a Honda Civic (2007 model) that we can also exchange.
We have good furniture, ornaments, and framed prints. They are not really child proof.
Newly established landscaped gardens and outdoor living areas surround the house.

Where is it?

Our home is in Mapleton, a small village on a range of hills (Blackall Range) on the Sunshine Coast - just inland from Caloundra on map. (For more detail go to: We look over rolling hills to the ocean. Mapleton boasts some pleasant restaurants and cafes as well as a popular pub. There are several bush walks in rain forests. We selected Mapleton because of the pleasant village atmosphere and because it is close to so many places to enjoy.

Mapleton is 10 mins drive from Montville, a popular tourist town with interesting craft shops and restaurants.

Mapleton is an hour and a half from Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland. Brisbane is a modern city with a very attractive inner city area for entertainment including a major performing arts centre, shopping and restaurants.

Mapleton is about 30-40 mins drive to the beaches. The Sunshine Coast offers a range of uncrowded beaches for surfing, boating, snorkelling, scuba diving fishing and walking. It is also a good place for fresh fish markets. Noosa, on the northern end of the sunshine coast, is a very popular beach town with upmarket shops, restaurants, and protected beaches.

About 30 mins drive away near Beerwah is the Australia Zoo built by the famous Steve Erwin (the Crocodile Hunter).

Day tours to Fraser Island National Park, the largest sand island in the world, are readily available.
