There's a sweeping view of the Harbour from my place which is on the top floor of a block of only 6 apartments. One living room wall is all glass and opens out to a balcony with open views out to the Harbour (this part of it is called Middle Harbour). Pairs of colourful lorikeets, an type of native parrot, regularly visit the balcony (see photo).
The main bedroom has an ensuite bath and a queen bed, with a Swedish Tempurpedic mattress. The other two bedrooms have double beds also with Tempurpedic mattresses.
The kitchen has the usual appliances, including a microwave and dishwasher, and the clothes washer and dryer are in a space off the kitchen. There's a barbeque on the balcony.
I have broadband wireless internet and a landline with unlimited free local calls. We can consider mobile phone sim card swap, as well.
The neighbours are quiet & cordial.
Mosman, especially this area of it which is called Balmoral, is one of the most desirable locations in Sydney. Balmoral has a big, white sand harbour beach with cafes and amenities, and is an 8 min. walk. from my place. The water here is calm - no surf or strong currents - and excellent for windsurfing, kayaking, snorkeling and surf paddling in addition to swimming. If you want a change, Manly Beach is an huge ocean beach which is less than 20 min. away. Manly and Bondi are two Sydney beaches famous for surfing.
There is a big variety of shops and cafes, as well as access to public transport, 3 min. walk from my apartment. You can travel to Sydney's centre (CBD) within 20 min. via bus or ferry. Many of the buses go to Rail stations that service outlying areas. And there is a beautiful continuous, well-maintained walk along the Harbour foreshore which passes through Mosman.
Sydney has been voted one of the world's most livable cities several times; the weather is moderate, the air is clear for a metropolis, it's usually sunny, it's safe, and there is both a thriving outdoor life as well as a vibrant cultural life. It's very easy to travel a short way - or even within Sydney - and not feel that one is near a city. Australian distances are great, so travel to other major destinations is usually by air. Australia is a dramatically beautiful country with very diverse landscapes and exotic flora and fauna.
My name is Madeleine (Magdalena) and I'm an American ex-pat who's been living here for almost 9 years. I have two boys who attend university in the US and I'll be attending the older one's graduation in May, so I'd like to extend my travel time with a home exchange. I've had two professional careers one of which was as an architect so I'm quite conscientious about taking care of where I'm living. I'm currently between jobs and, since I've always loved travel, I'm taking the time to explore more. I speak fluent Spanish, rusty French, some Italian, and can sometimes understand German. Our family last did a home exchange in '99 and I loved it.
