About our home

Our home is a very attractive and light timber house with lovely garden views at both front and rear and overlooking the golf course at the front. The large central entertaining/living space (combining kitchen, dining room, living room) includes a highly functional and smart kitchen with an island bench. Two bedrooms in one wing have their own bathroom/toilet, and the main bedroom (with TV) and its ensuite bathroom is separate, on the other side of the central area. In summer, air conditioning provides cooling and in winter a gas fire and other heaters serve to keep us warm. Wi-fi with unlimited broadband is available -- and supports the smart TV functions on the living room TV -- and local and national phone calls are free, as are calls to Australian mobiles. At the front, there are two outdoor areas for relaxing and one at the rear, with a BBQ. Use of a car can be negotiated and guests can borrow two bicycles and also two sets of golf clubs -- the golf course is across the road.

More about us

  1. We are Christine Jack and Neill Ustick, both retired academics, having worked in teacher education for most of our working lives. Almost every year, we enjoy taking an overseas holiday. May-June 2017 found us for a week at Yosemite valley, Napa and San Francisco before we moved on to for four weeks in Vancouver, Lake Louise and Duncan on Vancouver island. In late 2016, we enjoyed 10 weeks in Europe, including a lovely 12 day Hurtigruten cruise up the coast of Norway and back. Previously, we visited Turkey, Spain and Portugal, and India, as well as Canada (several times). Previously, we arranged for somebody to house sit, but now we've undertaken home exchanges. We are keen cooks and gardeners, and love art, music, reading and movies, as well as enjoying landscape and history. Christine is a very keen Bridge player and Neill loves playing croquet. Recently, we have been delighted to view local cinema screenings of the New York Met operas and British National Theatre Live plays. We will ensure that anyone staying in our home will be introduced to a number of our friends, who will answer questions and give other assistance. We know how to clean and to look after a home, committed to leave it as we found it or even cleaner!

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Approx 80 min from Sydney airport, the house is within the small township of Moss Vale, about an 8 minute walk to a good set of shops, including two supermarkets. Moss Vale is one of about eight small towns in the New South Wales Southern Highlands. The area is a very popular tourist destination. Like most of Australia, the climate is temperate but this particular area, at a higher altitude, is relatively cool with low humidity. The region has rolling green hills, beautiful gardens and trees, reminiscent of parts of England, making it an attractive place to live and a desirable weekend and holiday destination for people living in Sydney and Canberra. Within 30 minutes, there are at least seven wineries, four golf courses (one across the road) and many historic buildings and scenic attractions. Our neighbours are very friendly and, along with our friends, would prove helpful to anyone staying in our home. The township of Bowral, about 15 minutes drive, has a four cinema complex and many good restaurants and other shops. Moss Vale itself has a new swimming centre that includes several pools and a gym. One hour away by car are several excellent beaches. Within 20 minutes, a national park provides many walking/hiking opportunities. Overall the area is very attractive. Lively and colourful Sydney and the beautiful national capital Canberra are, respectively, an easy 90 and 105 minutes drive on an excellent freeway or a two hour train ride.
