About our home

Very comfortable and well equipped home near Byron Bay, northern NSW, near The Queensland border. Uninterrupted Hinterland views across golf course to the mountains. Only a couple of minutes drive (or 10 minute walk) to a long white sand beach. The house features a large entertaining deck. Upstairs are two king-size bedrooms, one of which can be converted to two singles. Downstairs, there are two queen size bedrooms with a separate entertainment area. With three bathrooms, including the main bedroom's generous ensuite with massive bath, there's plenty of room to bring friends or family. We do not have great facilities for children, but the beach and country club are close. Our open-plan living-dining-kitchen has been recently upgraded. The laundry is on the lower level.
Our home is 30 minutes the airports at the Gold Coast and Ballina, and 1.5 hrs drive from Queensland's capital city, Brisbane, although we are located in the state of New South Wales. Our cleaner can be arranged to come in for you.

More about us

  1. We (Ian and Jane) are semi retired, in our mid 60s. Ian's a keen golfer and chef, Jane a writer who rides horses.

We share a love of food, wine, travel and the arts. Ian retired from an international career in the IT/telecom industry and, at home but not when traveling, plays lots of golfer, is a great cook, and a not bad musician. Jane is a writer and editor. We like to cycle and would be happy for you to use our bikes and can discuss the use of one of our cars.

  2. We have done several wonderful exchanges and stayed in touch as friends. We are respectful of your home and know our friends will help to take care of you here if you would like to meet the locals.

  3. We hope to travel in Sept/Oct 2020 for Ian's 70th birthday. This is the best time of year in our part of the world weather wise.

Neighbourhood

Our area, the Byron Shire, is in the Northern Rivers district of New South Wales, near the Queensland border. The area blessed with some of the best long white sand beaches in the world, many cafes, restaurants, and a spectacular hinterland which offers rainforest walks. If you are fit, you might like to climb Mount Warning or/and explore World-Heritage-listed rainforests. Apart from golf, surfing, swimming and walking, there are lots of other activities available, including snorkelling, whale-watching (June-late August//September). If you walk to the lighthouse any time of year you're likely to see schools of dolphins which live in the clear blue waters of Byron Bay. Many colourful birds live around the golf course because of its many lakes.

Our cooler months (June/July/August) are generally mild, and comparable to summer temperatures in parts of Europe. If you take the short and stunning walk to the lighthouse in the cooler months you will the humpback whales as they migrate up the coast. Byron Bay, the most easterly point of Australia and one of Australia’s premier whale watching locations. The famous Byron Bay Writers' Festival for keen readers takes place every year in early August.

You can read more about our area in an article Jane wrote for Cathay Pacific Airline's in-flight Discovery magazine (see ttp://janecamens.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Discovery-Story.pdf).
