About our home

We love our home which we built and have renovated over many years to keep it modern and comfortable. It is set on half an acre in the hills of Perth and has sweeping valley views. With a large swimming pool, decked area, newly built covered patio and reticulated garden the house is ideal for relaxed outdoor living. The sunsets from the deck are amazing.

Our spacious, light filled home is furnished to a high standard with a modern kitchen and all of the usually appliances. There is air conditioning to keep you cool in the summer and two slow log burners to cosy up in front of during the winter months (one in the living room, the other in the lounge). The house is all on one level, but the garden is terraced to accommodate the slope. We have a mob of kangaroos living next door, lots of friendly bandicoots who share the garden with Cy, our lazy but very affectionate cat and a great variety of birdlife.

We have three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a study. The large master bedroom has a queen sized bed and an ensuite with large bath and views across the hills. Two other bedrooms have double beds. The main bathroom also has a deep bath with views into the garden.

More about us

  1. We are Karen and Wally, both teachers in our 60's. Our grown up children have left home, but occasionally travel with us. Our eldest daughter now lives in Melbourne and we often look for exchanges in Victoria. We are experienced exchangers having enjoyed about 20 home exchanges since 1997 (with a different home exchange site). We are not always tied to school holidays as we are able to take Long Service Leave at most times of the year. As may be obvious from the photos, Wally loves his garden and spends many hours outside. I love to have my family around me, to travel and enjoy new experiences. Neither Wally nor I smoke.

We are open to offers anywhere in the world and answer all emails, so please contact us even if we haven't selected your part of the world.

  2. We would love to visit more European cities - Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Barcelona, Copenhagen. For 2020 we are hoping to arrange a series of exchanges to the UK and Europe between late June until the end of September. We can arrange non simultaneous exchanges if you prefer to visit during our summer.

  3. Our eldest daughter now lives in Melbourne (in a very small apartment) and as we regularly visit we are always open to offers from this wonderful city.

Where is it?

Traditionally an orchard growing area Roleystone is now a beautiful bush suburb of Perth. All lots are a minimum half acre which equates to privacy and tranquillity. Our local area offers great bush walks, vineyards, local artists, golf, cafes, theatre and botanical gardens. It has all the necessary amenities in its village like centre.

Perth is Australia's sunniest capital and has a Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and mild winters. It is a city of many attractions - described as a place to experience the best of both worlds - soft sandy beaches and thriving metropolis of creative restaurants, bars and cultural attractions. Only 30 minutes from bustling Perth and Fremantle (by car or train) we are well situated to explore these many attractions.

Western Australia boasts some of the best unspoilt beaches in the world from which you can view dolphins at play and whales on their migratory journey to and from Antarctica. There are many tours in and around Perth from scenic river cruises and wine tours to snorkeling and fishing. To the south west you can visit many places of interest -vineyards, tree top walks, natural formations, wildlife, local artisans to mention just a few. To the north is the Pinnacles, the famous Monkey Mia and further north the wonderful Ningaloo Reef. There are numerous other interesting places to visit and experience in Perth and WA which are unique to this country and state.

Perth is regularly voted as one of the most liveable cities in the world and we would love to share it with you.
