About our home

We're located only fifteen minutes drive from Launceston and thirty minutes drive from the airport, overlooking the Tamar River in the heart of the Tamar Valley Wine Region. Our home overlooks the tourist route through the valley, which is used for both recreational and cycling clubs.

Surrounded by vineyards and farm land, yet only a three minute drive takes you to our local shopping-centre with supermarket, cafe's, take-away's etc... We have choice of four pubs all within a ten minute drive, including the Swiss Village pub at Grindelwald and our local, built in 1831 at Rosevears, which also houses a fabulous bakery.

Our home reflects our easy-going lifestyle and is decorated with our travel experiences. We're fortunate to enjoy an amazing view of the abundant birdlife on the river all year round from our living area and front balcony. We've recently completed a renovation at the back of our home, including entry through a glass sliding door where there is now a small sitting room, bathroom, two bedrooms and laundry. Opening the door into the main part of our home takes you down the wide hallway (the main bedroom/ensuite and a fourth bedroom, which is currently not used as part of the swap, are off this hallway) leading you into the open-plan living/dining area and kitchen. We have two reverse-cycle air-conditioners that operate all winter, keeping our entire home cozy and comfortable throughout the cooler months.

The main bedroom has a king size bed, the other two have queen size beds and electric blankets, with spare blankets, pillows, linen, etc... in the robes of the third bedroom.

We have a lovely garden to stroll through and a variety of espalier fruit trees and vegetable gardens to enjoy. Our purpose built gymnasium is at the front of our property and contains a rowing machine, bench press, squat rack, free weights etc... During the warmer months the front balcony is equipped with comfortable outdoor furniture and we also have a single kayak available as well as golf clubs, bags, buggies etc.. Tasmania has seventy-five golf courses, dozens within an hours drive from our home!

Tasmania has a land mass of 64,500 km2 with a population of only half a million, making it a rare place indeed! There are direct daily flights to Launceston from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide, with daily departures on board the Spirit of Tasmania from Port Melbourne to Devonport (an hours drive away). We truly are unbelievably spoilt living on this island, with beaches, snowfields, wine/food trails and the most picturesque sceneries within easy access!

Our home may not be suitable for small children, due to the balcony and in warmer months we ask you to water the pot plants.

We expect you to leave our home as you find it as we will yours, whether it be simultaneous, non-sim or points.

More about us

  1. If you're interested in visiting Tasmania, we'd love to hear from you wherever you are! I have noticed many people simply ignore messages, I promise I will respond to yours : ).

  2. Terry and I utilise our purpose built gymnasium, by volunteering our time to help others re-gain their strength and independence. We both love gardening, playing golf and remaining fit and strong. We also plan to play every golf course in Tasmania : ).
We have travelled extensively, spending twenty years living and working in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I worked in the Australian Embassy as well as teaching in the King's horse riding school. Terry was an Aircraft Engineer in the RAAF and utilised his skills working and teaching Saudi students in the Royal Saudi Arabian Air Force. We have also spent two years based in London, working and travelling.

  3. We are now enjoying the lifestyle of being retired and spending our free time doing what we love......... travelling! We're both believers of self-education, spending our spare time reading and studying, but most of all appreciate living in a beautiful hidden away part of the world!

Neighbourhood

There are many wineries scattered throughout the Tamar Valley! The Tamar Valley Wine Centre in Exeter can inform you which wineries are open and at what times, they also supply most of the local wines. We've enjoyed countless meals and functions at the wine centre, so very happy to recommend a meal and a glass of something special! We're within a short walk from Elmslie Tasmania, which offers a great cafe/restaurant and the 'Beautiful Isle Cellar Door' next door! If you enjoy a gin and tonic don't miss out on a visit to the Turner Stillhouse next to the Tamar Ridge Winery, they provide tastings and a tour of the distillery. The Legana and Grindelwald pub and our local at Rosevears all offer great tasty pub food, the pub at Exeter is popular for its Thai dishes and does takeaway.

There are several choices of golf courses near by, including our local nine hole course at Exeter, a short course at Gridelwald and Riverside's eighteen hole course. The famous Barnbougle is about an hours drive away.

The Cataract Gorge in Launceston is well worth a day out, take a picnic or choose from the restaurant or cafe for some great eats! There's a full size Olympic pool in the park as well as the suspension bridge and chair lift, that takes you from one side of the river to the other.
