Built in 2007, the house is three story steel construction. Russell Island is located about 6km from Queensland coast and just 45km from Brisbane and 60km from Gold Coast. The island has a village feel, with all the basic shops required. Mainland transport is via regular ferries (about every 40 minutes) to Redlands, taking around 20 minutes, or via car barge, which are available every hour, and take 65 minutes.
The ground floor has garage, laundry, gym and extensive storage (including 3 kayaks). The first floor has kitchen, dinning area, sitting area, main bedroom (with ensuite), and single bedroom (with ensuite). There is a very large deck overlooking the bay (where we spend most of our time), and there is a chair-lift if you cannot manage the steps from the ground floor. The second floor has an extra double bedroom, bathroom, study and large sitting room, with balcony to front and rear.
We kayak and fish from our boat ramp, plus put out crab pots. Moreton Bay has loggerhead turtles, dolphins, dugong and plenty of bird life, including sea eagles, kite, spoon builds, pelicans and many more. The bay is sheltered from the sea by North Stradbroke Island, Australia's second largest sand island.
The island is safe and very quiet, and our neighbours are very friendly.
