About our home

The Miners Church, Scotchmans Lead , Buninyong was built by the Cornish miners in the 1860s during the gold rush, 12 kms south of Ballarat Victoria, Australia.
The Church was our family home for 30 years and is now a self contained Bed and Breakfast. For the last 10 yrs. It is completely separated from our home at the rear. The church has a fully equipped kitchen, family room / dining , mezzanine for board games, reading and jigsaws. The bedrooms are all in seperate rooms with a queen with a cot, another with two small kids beds and the third with a double bed. The sunken living room is a snug room for watching TV!
The floor is polished Baltic original pine as is the barrelled ceiling. Heating is slow combustion fire fuelled with wood provided and gas heaters ( LPG) cooling is in the two bedrooms upstairs. Decoration is relaxed cosy country. Bathrooms are side by side with one being a shower./ toilet the other containing a genuine antique roll topped bath and basin. Extra seperate toilet is at the back, off laundry.
The garden is fully fenced with two acres of open spaces for games with a cricket pitch ,small alcoves and paths for games of chasey and tiggy. The seperate games room is a recreation of a old country schoolhouse with games, toys, table tennis and billiard table. Heated with a slow combustion fire fuelled with wood provided. Outdoor mobile Gas and small electric BBQs, a wood fired pizza oven and a Summerhouse and treehouse all add to fun family friendly outdoor living.
The area is undulating attractive very rural countryside that is within an hour to the coast and two hours to The Grampians and is great place to explore wine regions , beaches and country towns and Melbourne.
Ballarat our city nearby boasts Sovereign Hill , a recreation open air gold rush town (world class ) museum, with its own Gold Museum .
Ballarat is known for its unique beautiful Victorian buildings, our very own Botanical Gardens, exceptional Art Gallery and boasts a very scenic Lake Wendouree
Buninyong is our village 2 Ks from the Church . It is a true village with everything you need within walking distance . It has a small supermarket , chemist
, many coffee spots and cafes , bookshop garage and the best fish and chips and wood fired pizzas ! It is a very picturesque area with many walks available for the energetic and the amblers alike.
