About our home

The Spring Hill “Enviro-Cottage” is one of the greenest homes in the country (see www.envirocottage.com.au). It is both energy and water self sufficient and less than a 1km leisurely stroll to the bustling city centre of Brisbane or the pumping contemporary nightlife of Fortitude Valley and Chinatown or the tourist drawcards and theatre district of Southbank. The 4 bedroom air-conditioned home which sleeps up to 10, has been developed to demonstrate the principles of sustainable housing and is occasionally opened to the public to inspire and educate. It has featured on TV and in newspapers and in many home and lifestyle and enviro-magazines. The house proves that the resort style contemporary lifestyle often demanded does not have to be at the expense of our at risk environment. This is your chance to live the life of luxury, and see how sustainability feels and what it looks like, while savouring the delights of Australia’s most dynamic and growing city and within an easy drive to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

The house is on two levels and includes an air-conditioned “solar pod” in the back yard separated by an open grassed courtyard. The luxurious and stunning air-conditioned master suite with beautiful ensuite is in the “solar pod” above the lounge and TV/media area. The main house building has three bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and dining (under a glass ceiling to allow you to dine under the stars!) and garage/laundry. All appliances are water and energy efficient, the lights are all LEDs. There is also a stunning and intimate eco-pool for relaxing in on those gorgeous, steamy Brisbane summer nights. The library shelves are packed with travel books, contemporary novels and family games.

The house is about as central as you can get in Brisbane and was right in the middle of the G20 declared area. You can walk easily to the city centre, to Fortitude Valley, to the Brisbane River and to Southbank Parklands in less than 10-15 minutes. It is also close to transport (buses and trains – central station is 5 minutes walk away), shops, casual dining, parks, gymnasiums, bike and walking tracks. The suburb of Spring Hill is full of history as one of Brisbane’s oldest suburbs and the streets are full of quaint “Queenslander” style worker’s cottages. Isaac street itself, although very central is remarkably quiet with friendly neighbours and you often forget how close to the city and all the action you actually are.
This is an amazingly perfect place to base yourself while you explore more of what Queensland and Australia have to offer. We are happy to discuss use of the ix35 SUV while you are here too. That will help you explore a bit further afield with total convenience and with little additional cost.
