Completely renovated in 2011, this home offers all the necessary mod cons while retaining the charm, and the facade, of the cottage it once was. There's plenty of space with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sitting, minuscule study and bright kitchen and dining room opening onto a deck that leads to a shady back garden. A leafy front courtyard, complete with hammock, and upstairs verandah with city views offer an extra avenue of escape if you're after some quiet time.
The Balmain peninsular is just moments from the centre of the city. As one of the oldest neighborhoods in Sydney, Balmain has great food, bars and shopping in a beautiful setting. There's plenty of local activities on offer (check out the Dawn Fraser Baths for a taste of old style Sydney) and the local ferry service makes exploring the city and harbour a breeze. Great place to hang out, perfect base for exploring further afield.
The house is well set up for older kids, though no longer proofed for crawling babies or toddlers. There are four bikes, two sized for 10-14 year olds, two adult sized and an ever growing number of scooters which are great for doing a quick grocery run. For longer runs or bigger loads you're welcome to use our, somewhat lived in, Volvo XC70.
The PS3 and Wii are ready to use if you're that way inclined and the wifi somehow manages to support five computers (a mix of Mac ad PC), the television, a couple of iPads and who knows how many smartphones without blinking.
The house comes complete with two small dogs and one large cat. The dogs manage beautifully on one short walk per day and adore children. The cat likes anyone who'll feed him. Alternative accommodation can be organised if you prefer a pet free house.
