About our home

Our city home is a stylish 1940's stand alone house, with its own garden, just on the edge of Launceston city, and in walking distance to the centre of town. wide views over the city. The house retains much of its original charm with wood featured. A treed park across the road.
Once the home of a Tasmanian Premier and Prime Minister Bob Hawke enjoyed a beer in the kitchen.
Great place to unwind or to use as a touring base.
The house has bedrooms upstairs, but some might like the large guest room on the ground floor. Pleasant sitting and dining areas. Fully set up kitchen with electric appliances. Two bathrooms. Sun room. Outside to the front is a small garden with Australian native plants and to the rear is a paved back to relax in.
Launceston offers all that a modern, small city of 80,000/90000 people provides. Excellent wining and dining, cafes for casual coffees or snacks, good shopping, and just a short distance away are fabulous vineyards with their great wine, including Velo, Clover Hill, Nineth Island, Pipers River and so many more. Great food at some of them too!
Launceston offers excellent old architecture in its old commercial and residential buildings.
Around town, try Stillwater for a posh meal, the historic Rosevears pub for a meal with views, Gravelly Beach or Beauty Point for fish & chips. Go up to Grindelwald for a fine meal or a lunch snack. Dynasty just below our house for Chinese. The Pizza Pub for an informal meal. Cuccina Café is just down the road for breakfast, lunch or a coffee.
Watch sea horses & platypus at Beauty Point,
Walk the endless Greens Beach National Park beach.
Visit Launceston's Cataract Gorge, Mole Creek Caves, Liffey Falls, Ben Lomond, famous Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake, and Freychinet and do so much more. Bay of Fires is not to be missed. Travel further to Hobart and beyond.

Where is it?

We live in the bustling city of Launceston with its heritage homes and great eateries. All around there are boutique wineries. Our local scenery is superb.
Within walking distance of our house is the Cataract Gorge where the South Esk River dashes into the bottomless pool and out again on its way to the Tamar Estuary. Cafes and a restaurant. The chairlift with the longest single span in the world can take you across the pool or you can walk over the famous swing bridge. Admire the gardens with wallabies and and peacocks. In Summer, swim in the patrolled pool in the lawns.
Walk through the Tamar wetlands to Tamar Island seeing the birdlife
Just a little afield, there are the beauties of Tasmania, one of the last places in the world where you can find undisturbed country, wild animals in their natural state, and marvellous scenery.
Be sure to visit Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake, Freycinet, Friendly Beaches, the Bay of Fires, cute historic villages, the highlands, water falls. lavender farms, seahorse farm, cellar door sales, cheeseries.
