Our house is in Graz, Austrias second biggest town. Graz ist famous for its cultural sites (www.graz.at) We love our beautiful house in its green surrounding. It is a family estate and is beautifully furnished. We love old furniture and art - I think the house shows. It is the ideal urban house for all kind of activities in Graz as we can reach the city by foot. It is only 2 hours by car to Vienna and 3,5 hours to Venice (Italy). We also own a spacious cottage in Carinthia in the mountains near the Wörthersee, where we spend weekends (nice for skiing in winter). The cottage is right beside an old castle! (formerly owned by my husbands family). We also offer this place for exchange.
We are a married couple in our end thirties. We have 3 children (15, 6, 4). We love culture and travel but are quite fed up with hotels.
Usually we rent houses for holidays but exchange is an interesting option and we would love to try.
My husband is the general manager of the Austrian fruit storage and I run an au pair agency.
Our neighbours are all old friends as I grew up in this house.
They are very helpful and friendly.
My mother is living right besides in a second house. She will be delighted to help you in any way.
Our Austrian cuisine is smashing!! A melting pot of all the cultural influences of the Austrian monarchy. There are regular direct flights to Graz with Ryan air from London and practically every airline via Vienna, Frankfurt and Munic.Graz is a wonderful medieval town of 230.000 inhabitants located at the southern edge of the Austrian Alps. Graz boasts Europe's largest medieval down-town and is registered as a world heritage site. Last year Graz was "European Cultural Capital". See www.graztourism.at for more details and pictures.
Our house is a 10 Minutes walk or a five minute drive by tram from the city center, yet is only a few minutes away from the countryside. You can walk to a large castle from our home, walk to a supermarket or take the tram for a few stops for a large selection of restaurants and shops down town.
By the way, Arnold Schwarzenegger was born and grew up in Graz.
Graz is surrounded by rolling hills and mountains, perfect for biking, hiking and exploring. 30 miles south you are in the midst of the rolling hills of the Austrian wine country, or see the famous Lipizan Horses, the same distance north you can hike the Alps.
