About our home

Our apartment is the perfect base for an active mountain holiday. It has a L shaped, large sofa for socialising with television and spectacular views from the balcony to the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier and Maiskogel mountain.
The furnishing is very functional (timber laminate floors everywhere) with a large double bedroom, bunk beds in a seperate sleeping area and the sofa converts into a double bed if required. In addition to the bathroom facilities (bath and shower) in the flat there is a recently installed sauna and wetroom in the apartment basement.
The kitchen is small with hob and fridge/freezer. There is no oven but we find that in the Summer we prefer to make salads and cook pastas etc. on the hob. The dining table seats 6 and extends to seat 12 if required. Clean sheets are provided and the resident caretaker, Sylvia Dettenbeck, can organise cleaning when you leave for a small negotiable price.
The flat has free access to the Optimum swimming Pool with 2 outdoor pools (one with flume and slides) and an excellent indoor pool with steam rooms etc.

More about us

  1. We are a family of 5. We have three sons, Oscar (15) Giles (13) and Toby(13). We are Simon and Kate, we are married and run our own architectural practice in London. As a family we are all interested in Cultural activities. We love historic buildings, art galleries, anthropology, literature, art, music etc. We enjoy outdoor living and enjoy sailing, skiing, walking. We have never exchanged homes before but we know that by finding families with similar interests we are likely to find a home situated in a place with which we would connect. We value travel opportunities highly and would enjoy sharing our idyllic location in Austria with like-minded souls.

Where is it?

Kaprun is a perfect family holiday destination in the Summer. It sits on the Salzach river and has a vibrant cultural life centred around the mediaeval Castle. The local walking and mountaineering opportunities are unsurpassable and the high altitudes are easily reached by local cable cars and gondolas. In the Summer, the lower slopes are covered with wild flowers and grazing meadows.
The food in the Pinzgauer region is fantastic with great mountain hut eateries for walkers and some excellent restaurants in the local towns. The supermarket stocks all the regional Pinzgauer delicacies. We tend to cycle everywhere in the Summer as there is a 100km flat cycle track that runs from Salzburg to the Krimml Falls along the Salzach River. 3 bicycles are available in our garage and others can be hired from the local sport shop. Our sons love to long board on the track. Most towns on the route are well equipped with either watering holes, waterfalls or fantastic swimming pools for cooling off. Salzburg is about an hour by car and offers a fabulous cultural history with an excellent modern Art museum and famous Classical music Festival in the Summer. Zell am See is the nearest large town with many events for the family in the Summer, music, fireworks, a lake for sailing and good shopping. Kaprun has a bus connection to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier where at 3000m Summer skiing is very popular. The region is very festive in the Summer with many village fetes and local festival.
