About our home
We live in a large 2-bedroom apartment in the center of Vienna in one of the typical, old fashioned houses built 1888, with friendly neighbors. The apartment is on the 3rd floor with nice trees in front of our windows (no elevator). The apartment is decorated with a number of original artworks (old and new) and bookshelves. There are big windows facing south, with high ceilings (3,60 m, 12 ft.) and hardwood flooring. It is charming and old-fashioned, but newly renovated with a completely new bathroom - a shower and a tub - and a brand new kitchen. We have a dining room and a large, comfortable living room to seat 6 to 10 persons. One bedroom has a king sized bed. The children´s room has a bed which suits one person and a table where you can study. There is an extra queen-size mattress to put on the floor if you need it. The house is situated in a small street in one of the best neighborhoods in Vienna - upper middle class. It is a very secure and comfortable place. Quiet at night.

More about us
-
We are a married couple with three kids (16, 18 and 24). Hans (66) is an art photographer and book author (fiction and non-fiction). Trudy (46) is a teacher at primary school. We have two homes in Vienna, so a non-simultaneous exchange would be possible. We are very experienced travellers and have been travelling all over the world. We lived in Manhattan in 2014/15, together with our younger daughter. Until now we only swapped apartments with friends, but we would like to enhance our experience.

Neighbourhood
Our apartment is in the lively and lovely Servitenviertel in the 9th district. It is named after the baroque church and cloister of the order of the Servites. Only 200 meters off our house is the famous Palace Liechtenstein, which is now a museum and has a big park and children´s playground open to the public. Within 5 minutes walk there is the Sigmund Freud museum. Only 100 meters off our house there is a tennis court in a romantic, green backyard with a pavilion which was erected by emperor Charles of Austria in 1856.
Nowadays the whole area has a nice touch of French culture, because the French high school (Lycee) and the French cultural institute are located within walking distance. In our neighbourhood you find French food shops, organic food, grocery shops, wonderful restaurants, bars and theatres, cinemas, gyms, supermarkets, a dry cleaner, a taxi hub. 400 meters away there is one of the trendy summer hotspots of Vienna alongside the canal, with food stalls, bars, music venues, artificial beaches, walking slopes (you can walk and jog and cycle a 50 kilometre distance if you want). It´s similar to the high-line in NYC.
50 meters off our house is a stop of the tramway-line D, which goes either to the green hills of the famous village Grinzing, where you can sit in the gardens and taste the new wine (Heurigen) or you can go the other direction - three stops will bring you to the Ringstraße with the main theater (Burgtheater), state opera (Staatsoper), University, graphic collection (Albertina), the big museums (Kunstistorisches Museum, Naturhistorisches Museum), townhall, parliament and so on. Public transport and taxis are very easy and safe day and night. Within 5 minutes walk you have a subway station (# 4 train), where you can reach all other lines, the central market and the royal Palace Schönbrunn. By train you can easily reach Prague or Budapest or Venice.
